This is a very well situated house in a quiet dormitory village sitting on the Vende river and about 5mins drive from Fontenoy. The surrounding countryside is beautiful and rewards walks out and around the village which also has a superb park and sports centre. There are two very good bakeries/patisseries within a short drive while Fontenoy has an excellent Le Clerc, a HyperU and a useful [open Sunday mornings] Carrefour local. There is a small but decent market in Fontenoy each Saturday. The nearby Mervent Forest has all sorts of treats and Caroline [owner] will doubtless forward brochures and tips. The house is large enough to absorb ten people and has enough books to keep you occupied over an entire year. The various games [babyfoot, snooker, darts and whiff-whaff] will keep most youngsters more than happy while the garden lends itself happily to badminton and football; the local park is excellent for cricket and you can bag yourself a spare netted goal for a kick around. Views from the balcony are superb and this became our de facto lounge for two weeks.

We have just returned from a week in this beautiful house and are already discussing a return visit! Such a lot of space inside and out and plenty of options to entertain both our pre-schoolers and teenager. We enjoyed visits to the local villages and towns as well as two full days in La Rochelle. Plenty of lovely little touches to help us plan our visit and make us welcome. I couldn’t recommend this more highly.

Une superbe maison, full équipée!!! 5 Belles chambres, une cuisine où rien ne manque, des jeux pour enfants pour intérieur et extérieur, bref, un petit coin de paradis. Caroline, la propriétaire nous a fait parvenir de la documentation sur la Vendée avec les choses à aller visiter, les petits restos sympas,... Nous y avons passer un séjour fabuleux (en prime la visite du Puy du fou qui n'est qu'à une heure de route) et nous recommandons cet endroit!! Merci à Caroline pour sa gentillesse et... à bientôt

Forget Eurocamp, go inland a little bit and discover the beautiful Vendee near Fontenay Le Comte, a small cathedral town near to the Mervent Forest. We had a very comfortable stay in this spacious, well-equipped house, set in large gardens. Our sons had a great time chasing butterflies and lizards in the garden, playing table tennis, pool and table football in the basement, and enjoying the extensive collection of DVDs when they woke up at 6am. The garden has apple and pear trees, and a Reine Claude tree, which kept us going in fruit for a fortnight. Practically, there's a washing machine and tumble dryer, a large fridge freezer, plus another kitchenette in the basement. There were also adult and kids bikes, lots of toys and games, and plenty of books to read. We also enjoyed the French DVD collection. There's enough space to host two families with four kids, plus a couple of grandparents in the basement. It's within easy reach of the beaches of Ile de Re, for peche a pied, and also a slightly longer drive to La Tranche sur Mer for vast golden sands and safe swimming. There's also Lac du Chassenon nearby for swimming, boating and kayaking, with a cordened off area for safety, along with a waterslide and cafe. It's also only an hour to La Rochelle. The owners have been exceptionally helpful from start to finish, and we had so much information about the area and the house that we were spoilt for choice for activities. Puy de Fou is also not far away but we opted for beaches and lakes because the weather was so good. We booked this house instead of going for the Eurocamp option and are very glad we did. The owners also gave us a discount code for Brittany ferries. L'Orbrie has a wonderful weekend restaurant La Balancoire Bleue with a very accommodating maitresse D' and was very accommodating of our small boys. Pissotte has a branch of La Lutine, a boulangerie with excellent patisserie as well as standard baguettes. There's a Creperie in Pissotte and a excellent 'cave'. Our boys also discovered Geocaching whilst on holiday, and there are some good ones at the hidden fountain near L'Orbrie, next to the Mairie, near the fishpond, and in Pissotte. At night we drank wine on the balcony, looking over to the spire of Fontenay Le Comte's cathedral (lit up at night) and watched shooting stars and listened to the sounds of cicadas. I am recommending this place to everyone I know so get in there early!

Groot huis in een landelijke omgeving met veel spel- en sportmogelijkheden. Ideaal voor grote families. Vooral gericht op Britse toeristen.

Massive house in a quiet village and country location, but loads to do nearby. It would easily accommodate a couple of family's or friends travelling together. Was excellent value and easy to find even though it was our first time travelling in France. Loads of room and books and games, videos and DVD's made it feel very homely. Even a piano, although the kids wouldn't leave it alone so I'm not sure that was a bonus. My son who is 7 loved the table football and ping pong downstairs, so lots to do when hanging around the house. We ate on the veranda most nights with views out over farmland. It is not overlooked. There is a big forest with loads of walks and a retro theme park which was excellent. There's a zoo in there too, all 10 minutes away. The beaches were 45mins away and lovely and deserted. We had a day of culture in La Rochelle which was an hours drive and you must go there, it's lovely, historic old architecture, if a bit overpriced. There was lots more to do but we only stayed a week. A great base for any holiday.
