Appreciated the gated deck (for our dog) with access from two of the bedrooms and the great room. Down a flight of steps from the deck is another great area with a small yard/patio complete with picnic table, grill, and outdoor shower with a view of the Sound. Then down one more set of steps is access to the pier and elevated dock - a beautiful place to enjoy our morning coffee usually with a gentle breeze. Easy check in and check out with a digital front door lock. And of course the beach is not far away! Driveway is off the main (busy) road- so another big plus!

We had a great time at this property. Perfect location to walk to the beach and the sunsets from the dock were gorgeous!

We really enjoyed the deck and dock--the breezes and views were truly amazing! So great that some days we didn't even go to the beach. As a cook, I loved that the Sundowner's kitchen was so well-stocked (some places say that and they are really not). The 1-block distance to the beach was fantastic and we also enjoyed kayaking on the sound with the included kayaks. The one thing we didn't like were the mattresses, which we found to be quite uncomfortable. We would return next year if the mattresses were replaced.

Nice and peaceful location on sound with an easy walk to the beach. Enjoyed kayaking and fishing in the sound and hanging out at sunset on the beautiful dock. Our only issue was the outdated furniture especially in the living/family room.

The house is one block from public beach access and not over crowded. The house is located away from the business areas which was a plus for us. If you are looking to do fishing from the dock, don’t bother. Water is knee deep for 200 yards the then gets to 5 feet deep. That being said Fort Macon has a great fishing spot and isn’t far from the house, plus plenty of charter/party boat trips. We enjoyed the layout of the house plenty of space for 4 adults and 2 children 10 & 12. We will be back again next year.

This property is perfect located on the sound and in the middle of the other cottages our children and their families occupy on the ocean side. We have been coming to this section for over 50 years.

Very unresponsive host. Didn’t seem to care very much about our experience. Sort of implying we were lucky to be on Emerald Isle. The area and location were spectacular. The house didn’t have many amenities. I had a terrible accident on the property due to what I felt was lack of proper Signage. The host never responded to the information. My intention is to prevent this happening to someone else.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this house. It was the perfect size for our family. We loved the access to the sound, the amazing dock offered beautiful sunsets and lots of shrimping and fishing activity for our boys. The beach is a short 3-5 minute walk, super easy to get to. Perfect location, great house, fully stocked with supplies for beach fun if you happened to forget anything. We will definitely be coming back!

We had a wonderful time staying at the sundower. Catherine was very quick to respond back to me when I had a question about something. The boys loved crabbing and fishing in the sound. Our dog enjoyed swimming with them. Short drive to lots of fun things.

Beautiful sunsets and sunrises can be viewed from the newly renovated dock of the Sundowner. We enjoyed the dock and were able to catch quite a few fish during our stay. We loved the short 3 minute walk to the wide beach. The house is comfortable with a well equipped kitchen as well as a charcoal grill which we used several times. We appreciated the beach towels, beach chairs and boogie boards that were there for our use. We enjoyed being located mid island so not far from Emerald Isle shops as well as Atlantic beach shops and restaurants. We highly recommend this lovely home on the Bogue Sound for a relaxing beach vacation. The owners were great. They made the reservation and check in process go very smoothly. Great experience all the way around.
