Between us, my wife and I have traveled to 71 countries and all 50 states, many multiple times. We’ve had an incredible array of experiences. Our two week long stays at the Villa Vianci are among the absolute best. Our first was the year before the pandemic began. We took our two sons and their families (ages 14, 18, 19, 23, 47, 51, 52, 53, 77and 78). The second included 12 of our best friends over the last 60 plus years. They included college friends from long ago and work colleagues and dear friends spanning the last six decades. It was originally planned for 2020; then Covid bumped it to 2021; and then to 2022 when we went and had a glorious time. Life is family and friends.
Of course, Italy cannot be beaten as an international travel destination in general and Tuscany in particular. We’ve been 8 or 10 times over the years to every part of the country except the most southeast part. Now that we’ve discovered the Villa Vianci, I don’t know when we’ll make it to Molise and Apulia.
But the Villa adds a whole new level of joy to an Italian vacation. First, it accommodates family or friends beautifully. In our case, to be with 8 other family members and then 12 other friends is a grand time in itself. And to spend that time in a place with 7 oversized bedrooms, with really comfortable beds and ample rooms in which the whole group can comfortably gather is terrific.
The views are unsurpassed looking out over the Tuscan countryside in front, including from one of the patios where all of us frequently had breakfast outside. On the rare inclement weather days, breakfast with your friends and family is also nice in the first floor formal dining room right next to the kitchen. The living space is really amazing.
And then, of course, there is the quite large and very well kept swimming pool. We were with our friends in May so the water was a little cool, but we gathered around it for afternoon drinks several afternoons after being tourists all day. With the family in July, the pool was so wonderful. Spend all day out sightseeing then return late afternoon to cool off in the pool with a nice glass of wine and nibbles. And so many places to sit and read a good book or enjoy a quiet conversation.
I’m sure each of us on both trips had our favorite moments at the Villa. My favorite each day was gathering with the people I care about on the third floor at a table that comfortably sat all of us for a three hour very relaxed meal of good food and drink. The meals were wonderful. Chiara, the wife of the manor, prepared and Tommaso, the husband of the manor served the meal. Tommaso and Chirara were the perfect hosts. Easy to communicate with before coming to the Villa; very available and helpful when we were there. When we finished eating, we would all take one more glass of wine or limoncello to the second floor sitting room and continue our conversation. Absolutely idyllic.
And then the next day we would do it all again. Make the Villa Vianci your Tuscan home. You won’t regret it.
