Nothing short of an adventure, this trip truly went above and beyond all of our expectations.......
Your South African hosts, Roux and his lovely partner Christine, made us feel welcome as soon as we stepped aboard there lovely boat “Era” aptly named after a music group from there homelands, and possibly also a start of a new era in there lives too, and who knows....maybe for anyone who steps aboard also??!!.
Looking for an escape from dry land and a chance to see this beautiful part of the world from the water,
It truly didn’t disappoint from the off....a trip to Bequia was our first port of call and after a spot of fishing on the way and a glass in hand that was never empty, our captain Roux effortlessly sailed us across, all the years of their sailing experience shining through.
Before we knew it, we where moored in the beautiful bay of port Elizabeth, a great snorkelling spot and without hesitation we were both in and taking in the wonders of underwater life! lobster, small colourful fish and even a turtle put in an appearance.
As the sun set, Christine was busy in the kitchen.....the smells of cuisine wafting from the galley and we knew we were in for a great dinner!
Never experiencing South African cuisine before, and after many interesting conversations with them about the different cultures residing in South Africa, the dinner and every subsequent meal so flawlessly cooked, really took the taste buds on a journey.....amazing!.
Living in close quarters with anyone who you have never met before could be a daunting thought....hence the “wild card”
Your hosts Roux and Christine will make you feel so welcome that, before you know it, it’s like they are old friends you haven’t seen for ages! your living space is half of the boat, private bathrooms etc and rather ideal is located on the same side as the bar area!!!....all mod cons are on board, and the pair of them have tailored it to suit perfect living at sea!
Many stories from there journeys play a big role in your day and the pair of them are a wealth of knowledge not just in sailing but in the rich tapestry of life also, you really can’t help but be honoured with the time you will spend with them and the memories you will gain.......priceless!
Upon returning from Bequia back to St Vincent we had a few days sailing on the leyward side of the island, mooring in the evenings in quiet bays and watching the sun go down from various aspects offered by being on a boat.....and one that gives you many different spaces to find your selves sitting and looking.....relaxation at its very best!.
We would both strongly recommend you playing a “wild card” put yourselves in the very competent hands of such an amazing couple,
for an experience you will never forget and an “era” you will want to get back to!
