Secure, clean location
To start, the grounds are beautiful and immaculately kept. The condo is simply decorated and very clean. This was one if the few properties we have stayed in near an ocean that didn't have a musty smell. I attribute some of that to the concrete construction and minimal rugs but it is also due to being well maintained. The only thing I would have changed was to have it cleaned once during our stay as several days of going to the beach, etc. starts to build up sand on the floors even with using the outside foot wash liberally. The condo also had plenty of both shower and beach/pool towels. The pool is small but a great alternative for my 2 kids after a day out in the sun where they could play in the shade while we enjoyed home made pina coladas. A decent blender was available. Francisco, the caretaker, is phenomenal. He was friendly, helpful, and available. When we noticed some ants, he took care of it immediately. He was even awake and made sure we got out ok as we were packing up to leave at 4 am Saturday.
The area in general was very good with plenty of great near-by restaurant recommendations given by the condo owners. There are several beaches nearby, Flamingo and Potrero were our favorite for standard beach experiences. Potrero was only about a 3 minute walk from the condo. I recommend zip-lining at the Congo Trail and snorkeling at Conchal Beach. Although much more expensive, the Superman Zip-line for a mile at El Diamonte Eco Park was amazing. Definitely recommend a pizza at Marco Polo, Mahi-Mahi tacos at Coco-Loco, and a breakfast at The Shack.
We are now deciding when we will be going back.
As for negatives, we were there at the end of the dry season so the region was dry and dusty. It is also a distance to any of the volcanos and rain forests so realistically difficult to go there for just a day trip. Next time, we may set up a couple nights in one of these areas before going out to the coast. Food in the area, even the grocery stores, was a little pricey. The catamaran sunset tour was ok. We booked one through Lis on the Lazy Lizard. They were very friendly, generous with drinks and food, which was good, and the sunset was beautiful. The snorkeling was poor and overall kind of expensive. It was fun to do once but not sure I would do this one again. If you rent a car, I recommend an AWD as some of the roads can be a little rough such as the road to The Canopy Tour and the road into Conchal beach was "interesting."

Tranquil, relaxing and the perfect location
We've just returned home from a two week stay in the El Delfin condo, and we had a fantastic time. Caretakers Fransico and Marling greeted us before we were even out of the car, and helped us settle in right away. They take great care of the property, including the lush tropical garden around the very relaxing pool area. It really is just a two minute walk to a wonderful beach, and there are 7 or 8 restaurants within a five or ten minute walk. Drive for that same amount of time and the options seemed endless. The full kitchen (even a bbq just outside the door) was perfect so we ate several meals at the condo as well. We've already recommended the property to family, and we'll definitely be back ourselves. "Pura Vida!"

Don't make me go home!
We are now at the end of a magnificent 3 week stay in the El Delfin condo at Stef Surf in Potrero. We have had an amazing stay here! The caretakers, Francisco and Marling, have made sure our stay has been carefree and relaxed. They are wonderful! The condo is equipped with everything we needed. We ate out a lot and there are several great restaurants close by. Our favourite is Celeste, a great Italian eatery just up the street. We got great advice from Lis, the local tour organizer, for ziplining, boating and even rustic volcano retreats 3 hours away. I give this place a 5 star rating and will certainly be coming back next year.

Gorgeous property on the Costa Rican Riviera
Stef Surf is just a short walk from the beach and a short drive from some of the most beautiful beaches you'll ever seen (many of which were almost deserted in late January). Make sure to check out Playa Penca, Playa Grande, and Playa Avellana.
As for the property itself, the condo was beautiful and relaxing. There were multiple outdoor areas in which to relax, and the indoor areas were stylish as well. The property also has a gorgeous pool and tranquil gardens. If not for the amazing beaches it would have been hard to leave the condo!
We got lucky in that Greg and Gladys were at the property when we were. They are lovely people and it was great to meet them, but the team of Francisco, Marling, and Lis really run the property and made us feel right at home, helping with ideas for things to do and maintaining the pool each morning. The three are so friendly and really made us comfortable during our entire stay.
One final note--we had a cook come make dinner for us a couple of nights. The woman Greg and Gladys recommended (Estefania) was an incredible cook and we so loved having her there.
Long story short, if you're heading to western Costa Rica, I couldn't recommend Stef Surf more highly!

Beautiful, comfortable and friendly
Stayed 1 week in El Delfin unit. Steps to beach, many, many restaurants and bars. Caretaker onsite 24/7 was a joy and very helpful. Absolutely no concerns about security. Pool area and gardens are beautiful and the owners are friendly and accommodating. Concierge Lis will be at your door the day after arrival to help you plan outings and activities. We were looking for a "non-resort" family vacation to get a more authentic feel for Costa Rica and that's exactly what we got. Walk to fresh fruit stand, grocery store, local establishments and activities. The unit itself is beyond spacious, and offers every amenity you could want on a vacation.Loved our stay and can't wait to return to this beautiful and diverse country.

Great place to stay in comfort!
We really enjoyed our stay and will return again. It's a short walk to Playa Potrero but other beaches are close by too. Some very good restaurants in the vicinity and Greg and Gladys were very welcoming. The condo was clean and had everything for preparing meals if that's your thing. Really enjoyed the view of the large tree right outside the master bedroom for birding.

Most amazing place to stay in Costa Rica!
WE absolutely LOVED this place. We arrived a few hours later than we said but Fransico was waiting out front for us to arrive. He and his wife are so friendly and we just fell in love with the both of them. When we arrived, he unloaded our car and gave us a tour of the house. He was so helpful. He and his wife are super sweet and such hard workers. We stayed in the El Delphin house and it was so clean and so beautiful. Greg and Gladys were also there while we were. We fell in love with them too. Greg and Gladys were very gracious and helpful. We even cooked over at their house one lunch time. The pool was a hit for our kids. They swam more in the pool than the ocean. The ocean is only a 5 minute walk. The whole area is beautiful. WE were very close to some very good restaurants. Our kids' favorite was Perlas, just down the road. WE also enjoyed a couple of the beachside restaurants. Every place we ate, we were not disappointed. There also was a good Italian place as well. The 2nd day we were there, Lis the concierge, came to our house and she helped us book horseback riding on the beach and gave us a lot of pointers on they surrounding areas. I highly recommend talking with her. She helped us plan our week without wasting any time.
We woke up to birds singing each morning and we would sit outside our balcony sipping our coffee and just enjoyed being with all the beautiful unique birds and LUSH greenery everywhere. It was such a neat tropical area within the walls of Stef Surf. It was so lush that we couldn't even see the pool that was below us. WE loved EVERY single minute of our stay. December was the perfect weather. It was not too hot, but hot enough to enjoy the cool pool. You are only minutes away from so many neat beaches. There is a white sand beach, black sand beach and just a regular beach. We also were only 30 min away from Diamonte Eco Adventures. There we did 4 ziplines. One was a Super Man Zipline that was 1 mile long. They also have an animal sanctuary that we visited after the ziplines that is definitely worth seeing. (When you drive to this place, make sure you take the bridge, we drove the through the creek and was a little nervous b/c we did not know there was a bridge till on our way back). If you want a feel of the local people this is a place to stay as well. Stef Surf was off the main road and was very quiet and peaceful but when you got back to the main road, you were right within the Costa Rican people that were so friendly and helpful as well. I enjoyed that very much b/c I love to get to know the locals and their own culture. We were able to see the howler monkeys in Brasilito while we were horseback riding (which I highly recommend...ask Lis about riding with Ricardo). We are really looking forward to going back to visit Costa Rica and we will definitely be staying here again. Thank you Greg and Gladys, such a beautiful place and thank you to Fransico and Marion (might spelled wrong) for always being around to help us. WE love you guys!!

Great hidden gem
We had a great experience, the home was clean and had everything we needed. The information packet provided with check-in was great. We were able to explore the many recommended beaches and restaurants all very close by.

Little Piece of Paradise
Awesome modern condo two minutes walk from the beach with plenty of amenities nearby. Owners were super friendly and helpful, as was the caretaker that lives on site, and can help you arrange any activities you want to do (Would definitely recommend the sunset catamaran trip!). Place was very comfortable with newer appliances, comfy beds and great outdoor space, would definitely stay again. Wifi was a little hit and miss inside so keep that in mind if you're planning on using it for communication while in Costa Rica.

Awesome property and location
The property is beautiful. We grew to really love the privacy offered by the setup and communal area. The pool and all the sitting areas provided great sanctuary and some great shady evenings and mornings. Edwin was an attentive caretaker, always cleaning the property. He also helped us have fresh fish delivered by a local fisherman. We spent a lot of time cooking and preparing food ourselves, despite the hundreds of local restaurants you could choose. Local farm stands abound and we shopped for fruits and veggies while helping support the locals with our business. Playa Portrero is the closest beach and we found our way to it about a block away upon arrival. Totally peaceful and like many of the beaches, very unpopulated. We had lunch at the beach club a few hundred yards away one afternoon and one evening walked all the way to the beach shack at the end. We familiarized ourselves with the local area immediately and it was pretty easy to learn our way around. We beach hopped a lot and visited Sugar Beach, Playa Flamingo, Negra, Tamarindo and the aforementioned Portrero. Sugar was fantastic and very private. Flamingo had the absolutely most amazing sunsets and I highly recommend anyone staying in this area check that out. It was mind-blowing and I promise will stay with you forever. Tamarindo was as advertised; overcrowded, touristy and should be skipped, imo. We also took a ride to Playa Negra, since we wanted to see a beach with surfing level waves. The water was as advertised, and more turquoise than some other beaches. That being said, it was a long ride over some difficult roads to get there. We found a small resort where we could grab a drink but it wasn't to our liking so we didn't stay too long here either. We never got the chance to visit Conchal but have that on our list for next time :) We also did a day trip to Torino National Park. It was a 3 hour drive so we wound up staying overnight, but it was well worth it. We hiked the entire park and it was challenging but fulfilling. We saw the Blue Lagoon and waterfall, which must be seen to be believed. Overall, our experience in Costa Rica and at Stef Surf were amazing. Highly recommend both!
