We stayed in this apartment as a family for 6 nights. It is pretty basic (for example, no oven, and no basics for cooking - not even salt or pepper), but very clean and has enough to get by on. If you use this with children, its worth noting that once they are in bed, you cant have the main light on without disturbing them, but in summer you can go outside.
There are several good restaurants a short and nice walk away, as well as shops with basic foods, but the closest decent supermarkets we found were in Ribiera Brava and Porto Moniz. Whilst you can walk from the apartment, we found we had to drive to find better places to walk (and swim) - but there are plenty of amazing places in west Madeira! The driving is a bit 'interesting' in places though.
