I don’t often fly from Gatwick as it’s a good five hour train journey from where I live in Devon. But when the chance of a trip to Lake Maggiore in Italy came up in May, Gatwick was the best option for flights to Milan Malpensa. I ummed and arghed about getting the sleeper train at midnight, so I could get there in time for my 9am departure. But in the end the best option for my sanity was to travel up the day before and find a pre-flight hotel at Gatwick. Here's where I stayed

[AD Press Trip] If you love visiting historic sites with your kids then I can recommend adding the hermitage at Santa Caterina del Sasso to your to Lake Maggiore bucket list. Yes, there are 240 steps to reach this cliff-side Italian monastery, and there's preserved human body at the back of the church. But that all adds to the fun! Last autumn we stayed in a lakeside glamping post at Croft Farm Water Park in Gloucestershire. The activity side of the holiday park had stopped for the season but it was a great base for exploring an area we've not visited before.

Don't discount Cornwall in South West England as an all year round destination. Here's what we got up to during February half term #spon PS We were in Cornwall to review a stay at The Valley Cornwall in exchange for coverage on my blog and we also received free bike hire from Bike Chain Bissoe.
