Modern motel with clean but rather anonymous rooms - has some notable good points though: 1. good location 30min drive from lake Mburo NP gate 2. good price for Uganda 3. excellent food cooked by chef Apollo in the alfresco restaurant All in all it was a convenient stopover for us.
I've reviewed this with a mid range hotel in rural Africa in mind i.e. you cannot expect and will not get the same standards and level of comfort as in an urban area and USD 50 per night in Africa is cheap. It's fine. It's what you would expect in rural Africa. The good points: 1) The rooms and bathrooms were clean 2) The bathrooms had western style toilets, and water supply to them, the taps worked, the toilet flushed 3) The staff were attentive and the service good. Food arrived 47 minutes after ordering (I timed it) which is pretty quick for Africa 4) The food was really tasty, I stuck to the local dishes, vegetable curries and casseroles and they were lovely 5) Check in was quick and efficient 6) Lovely garden area in which to relax, eat, work The not so good: 1) Yes it's noisy its on the main Masaka - Mbarara highway and they put speed bumps in the road before the motel. I expected this and brought ear plugs and all was well 2) the mossie nets above the bed in my room (4) was useless. It was on curtain rail like runners, a great idea but they didn't go round the bed, stopped at the wall leaving a huge gap that anything could fly through 3) Intermittent electricity supply when it rains (not unusual in rural Africa) 4) The shower was a trickle but the eater hot and there was bucket and jug in the bathroom for bucket wash so no real issue there either 5) No safe, didn't epxect one but it would be good to have. SO overall, I'm giving it 4 * with the caveat that it's a rural hotel. The basics, it's secure, food is good, hot water are all covered and I loev the garden area. They are building little 'cabins' behind which when ready will be worth checking out as they should be quieter. Give them a go just bring your ear plugs!…
