Great place for the Lamar Valley

Camp ground has 16 spots, would say 1 thru 4, 11 and 14 are the best for having a little bit of space around you, still you will see your neighbors. 1 thru 4 & 11 have easy creek access. We were in 13 which was okay but next to the pit toilet which was very clean and vented properly (which means it didn't gag you). Got there @ 06:00 2nd in line on a Thursday, full by 07:00. Don't be misled by that however, Saturday they had space till 08:00 and on Sunday when we left at 10:00 they still had 2 open spots. If your jumping camp spots around the park stop in and check the board for openings for the day you might want to stay there, If your planing early mornings in the Lamar Valley this is the place to start your day. The park is huge and travel is hampered by the speed limit, tourists and animals, be patient and keep your fingers crossed that if you do get stuck in a traffic jam you will at least be close enough to the critters causing the jam to be entertained. …

Hiking

Durante il viaggio a Yellowstone, ho frequentato questo posto varie volte per fotografare un falco pescatore. Per gli amanti della natura, sono posti stupendi. Qua trovi di tutto: orsi neri ,grizzly, cani della prateria, scoiattoli, oche, anatre, bisonti. Consigliatissimo!!!!!

Great Campground

We were here 10/16 through 10/18. Loved it. Very small campground. Tried to get there a day earlier, but no sights available. Second try we were there at 6 am and 5th in line. Bottom line, get there early. Sites 15 and 16, as well as 1-5 or so are wide open, no shade. Site 1 looks great, but all the day use people are at your doorstep all day. Site 11 is the undisputed best site, 14 is good as well. But, take what you can get--high demand. Close drive to buffalo, wolves, mountain goats, big horns and more. Highly recommend!

Quiet and on the creek

Slough Creek, with only 16 sites, is a wonderful campground if you want primitive camping, away from the crowds, No hookups, no generators allowed, many sites on the water. At least 5 sites can take a big rig, but most sites are filled with small campers or tents. Often, only 2-4 sites are available a day and these are given out around 6:30 to 7:00 am when the camp host comes out, although the current occupant doesn’t have to leave until 11am. Get there by 5:30 or so to be sure to get a spot. The hosts are friendly, helpful, and run a tight ship, meaning don’t go there to party hearty. They do their best to make it pleasant for everybody. Bison often are either on the entry road or in the campground. Bears are seen regularly depending on the time of year.

Quiet Oasis

This is a very small camp ground with 16 sites. Many sites back on to the creek and most are spacious and level. Each has a bear box. There are pumps for water (that is the best tasting water in the park!). It is a couple of miles from the main road. We saw deer and a bear at the campground. There were herds of Bison grazing on the road in. Campground host was very helpful and friendly. Get there early if you want a site.
