I just spent a lovely 36 hours at the Inn at Mattei’s Tavern. Everyone was kind, helpful and went above and beyond. The room appointments were perfect. The massage was amazing. The food and drink were good. Check-in and check-out reflected the easy sophistication of the property. I was very impressed by the Itinerary Design Department. I put this trip together last minute and the team made the whole thing easy. From getting me excited about onsite activities, to planning dinners and wine-tastings off site (which were wonderful), to the spa appointments, the team's enthusiasm made planning easy and the trip fun. I am planning a quick get-a-way to Mexico, and based on the positive experience here, I am booking at the Auberge property in Punta Mita
We visited Los Olivos/Solvang for the first time and thanks to Mattei’s Inn, we will be back. New to the area, the hotel set a great first impression. Just like the pictures, the hotel is rich with history- luxurious with a modern farmhouse twist. The grounds are absolutely beautiful, with plenty of outside seating. The staff was friendly and accommodating throughout our entire stay (shout out to Cesar for going the extra mile). We stayed in the 2nd floor cottage accompanied with its own private balcony; beds were very comfortable. The pool/spa area was one of my favorite spots; perfect for lounging or swimming laps. The food experience was 10/10. From the breakfast sandwich at Felix Feed…to the squid ink risotto at The Tavern. Chef Rhoda is truly a marvel. If you’re looking to peruse some local boutiques or stop by some tasting rooms (highly recommend Carruci Wines), the hotel is a short walk to downtown los olivos. We were also pleased with the quick 10-minute drive to charming Slovang. Mattie’s is without a doubt the premiere hotel/resort in the central coast. We are looking forward to our next visit! …
We recently stayed here and absolutely adored our experience. First off, the whole resort is first class. It’s just top notch with friendly people who were happy to help us and answer all our questions about the Tavern. Our first night, we went to the bar area and had the Chicharrones for an appetizer. My god, the Chicharrones!! Delicious, crunchy, and a hint of spice. I had the chicken sandwich for my main course and my girlfriend had the burger. Both were excellent, although I was a bit jealous of the burger when it came out. My girlfriend gave me a bite and it was every bit as good as it looked. We also had a couple Old Fashioned’s and those were expertly crafted by the bartender. We spent the next few days wine tasting in Solvang and Los Olivos. Everything was close by, with the tasting rooms in Los Olivos a five minute walk away. I highly recommend Carucci Wines, the best we had while staying there. Overall, the staff was incredibly friendly and diligent. The rooms were cozy and had great style. We were lucky enough to have a room that overlooked the resort and had a balcony with an outdoor fireplace. Having wine outside with a fire was perfect after a long day of vacationing. I recommend this resort highly. Book it and let yourselves enjoy the area. It’s as beautiful a place as you’ll ever find. …
Visited during soft opening. Tavern is wonderful. Property has spectacular pool and fitness, but is many months away from completion of spa area. Management is excellent and friendly (and went out of their way to make our stay amazing!). Upgraded rooms (thank you Auberge!) are also beautiful and of the highest quality i every detail, but base rooms are a disappointment (too small, including bathrooms) as are second-floor rooms. Shower water pressure is poor (ironic when you consider thar one centerpiece of the hotel is an old water tower) but showers themselves are beautiful. Resort grounds more resemble an old military base than a 5-star resort but, with time and more plantings, the space could be very special. Location allows guests to walk to downtown Los Olivos (a real plus) but hotel shockingly has few “free tastings” deals with the main wine tasting venues in the area. For the anticipated hotel prices, this should be negotiated and soon.…
We enjoyed our 2 night visit to the hotel. Rooms we stayed in one of the original cottages that was very nice with a excellent bathroom and comfortable bed. Food 10/10. Enjoy breakfast at the coffee shop or restaurant and don’t miss a first class meal at the tavern. Walking distance to town and not far from excellent hikes and horseback riding (Fess Parker ) the Inn is a worthy stop or alternative to the typical Santa Barbara experience. We will be back for sure. Highly recommend
