Stayed 3 nights at Khwai campsite. Baboons ripped open our tent on the first night, just to get into our medicine box. The baboons slept above our tent and defecated on our car and the site. We asked the SKL staff on-site if we could move campsites and they never got back to assisting us. On our last night our ground tent was opened completely and a few items were taken. Unfortunately, neither of us woke due to the noise of a massive storm. The next day we heard stories that other Khwai campers had backpacks robbed out of their cars by locals. Make sure you keep your car and tent locked at all times. Besides that it was lovely camping and had amazing game drives spotting lots of animals. Bathrooms were also great.
Lovely campsite on the Khwai river. Good ablution facilities (last morning we didn't have any water in the bathrooms). Elephants and Hyaena through our campsite and a wild dog chasing impala. Baboons is very sneaky and be sure to close everything. We saw some baboons opening a tent. Neat ablutions, go around 4pm to have a hot shower. Lots of shade at our campsite (challenging with solar panels). Limited WIFI at reception. No card facilities at office to pay park fees - ONLY PULA ACCEPTED.
We stayed at North Camp In Jan 2022. Around the area was a beautiful area and the drive out from the campsite was stunning. Unfortunately the area was already VERY wet so the game numbers were incredibly low, but you could see in the dry season that the area would pump! We heard lions in the night, and our friends saw wild dog run through the campsite the next morning! The camp itself was very wet, roads into each campsite were extremely muddy with it looking like several people had been stuck. Otherwise campsite is very shady, lots of clean ablutions and friendly, helpful staff. There is water at the campsite from a borehole which you can drink which is great. Unfortunately alike the other reviews the monkeys and baboons were terrible not being able to turn your back and also the camp smelt like baboon poop. Overall the camp has what you need but is a bit tired and could use a re-vamp. Keen to head back there in the dry season!…
We had campsite no MK5 which is not too far from the river, however close to the sandy road running through the camp. Ablutions were not too far away - however the Ladies side did not have hot water at all!. The monkeys are an absolute pest and you cannot leave anything unattended or they are into it trying to get whatever food they can get hold of. We were very fortunate one morning when two male lions walked right past our camper while roaring - what an experience!!! Wildlife surrounding Khwai Northgate was much more abundant than in Chobe.
