Hi, we would like to take the train to Porto from Lisbon. Could you tell me the best way to get here from the train station?
Thanks!
Hi! If you don’t have huge suitcases you could walk from the train station. It’s not far at all. If you would like exact distance contact Carmen at Guest House Douro. We LOVED our stay there!!!
PS - yes, if you get your driver to ring the guest house or you ring when nearly there they will come and meet you and help you find it. Fantastic location and they are such lovely hospitable people.
it Is a lovely trip from Lisbon to Porto by train (although I went from Porto to Lisbon) but these were the two places in Europe that I caught taxis from the train station. I had quite a heavy bag and both cities have cobbled streets and a lot of steps (Porto is on one hill and Lisbon is lots of ups and downs). If you want info on best way to get to train stations via public transport and walking I suggest the App ‘Road to Rio’ - put in where you are and where you want to go (anywhere in the world) and it will give you directions, train, bus, plane timetables and what walking is involved. Hope this helps. I absolutely loved these two cities!
I must be a mile - just a short taxi trip. Except for outside day trips Porto is easy to walk. Have fun. Ron Moore
You can walk if you are not carry too many bags. About 15 minutes. Or taxis are plentiful outside the train station. There is also Uber which we used.
Thank you all for your help. I can't wait to see Porto!
Contact the guesthouse, They will give you precise instructions.
I would suggest getting a cab. Parking for this property is under the main square and cars are only allowed into the old area during certain hours. A cab can drop you off at the top of the road and you just have to walk down a ramp and make a left and you’re there.
Suggest you liaise with the guest house. The station previous to Santa Apollonia is closer providing you have a cab pre-booked which the owners can do for you if you know which train you are on
We flew into Porto and had arranged pickup, but either that or cab would be perfect.
You can take a train from Santa Apolonia station in Lisbon that goes to Sao Bento station in the centre of Porto. From there it is a short cab ride to the Guesthouse Duoro (or a short walk downhill). You can easily book the tickets ahead of time at world wide web cp.pt/passageiros/en/train-times - enjoy your trip!
