I am arriving Schiphol airport at
8. 25am and leaving by 8. 45pm flight to Nantes. About 12 hours of layover at Amsterdam.
I would like to bring my 10 years old girl to Zuiderzee museum at Enkhuizen. Can please advice on what is the best time slot train to take and how much time to spend at the museum and Enkhuizen surrounding, if any.
How much is the museum entry ticket fare.
As mentioned above, you need to change trains in Amsterdam Sloterdijk. Trains for Sloterdijk leave every 30 minutes, with destination Amersfoort Vathorst. The first one you might catch is at 8.29 am. In Sloterdijk take the train with destination Enkhuizen . Total journey should last 1.09 hours.
Enkhuizen itself is a nice town with old buildings. If you have some spare time, the places of Hoorn and Koog aan de Zaan are worth visiting, along the trajectory of the train. Koog aan de Zaan has nice Dutch scenery, with at least 4 green windmills in one view. Looks great with a blue sky, I'm not sure how it looks with a grey sky. Hoorn is a historic place with a fabulous tower at the waterside, and the historic wooden ship De Halve Maen. There's also a great museum about the Dutch East Indies Company - though that may not be suitable for young children.
You will enjoy the museum, but make sure you have enough time to travel there :
Depending what train you take, the net travel by train is max 1hr45. please note you have to switch trains once at the Sloterdijk station.
Arriving in Enkhuizen, the museum is 10 walking minutes away from the railway station. It's all signposted (small brown sings)
Price of train ticket is some Euro 13, (one way) per person
The museum has 2 areas: a real museum (open all year) and an open air area (closed in winter)
Admission fee to the museum is Euro 7.50 (adults) and Euro 5.- (children 4-12 years)
allow 3 hours for your visit. Museum has explanations in Dutch and English.
For lunch there is a coffee area, restaurant and outside there's a nice place called de Masten Bar with a great view on the lake.
check answers other travels gave. consider transportation can also take about 3 hours, walking, boat, train etc. in addition to 3 hours at the museum.
3 hours should be enough at the museum if you are pressed for time. The train schedule and admission is on the internet. You need to know for the date you will be there...also to check what is open there at the time of your visit. She will love it.
