Experiencing a kingfisher fly by. This nature serve was so lovely and worth a stop. The hides are well placed and maintained. The routes can be extended by coursing onto the river Ouse trail. We ran the routes and made it into a 6 mile course. We saw multiple herons, cormorants, nightingales and red kits above us. We were really impressed. We used it as a half way stop on our way home from holiday. Good toilet facilities, refreshments and friendly volunteers.

Absolutely amazing place and as our new home backs onto the nature reserve we use it more than ever. Such a nice place to walk, run or just chill out. The visitors centre is fantastic with lovely staff, plenty of parking to.

As the title, well worth the trip. Good selection of long and short walks and a welcoming visitor centre with a well stocked second hand book store. Limited range of food / drinks but adequate. A good pub in the village nearby..

Fabulous afternoon here. The volunteers were so helpful to arrange is to use the ‘tramper’ mobility scooter which enabled my mother to enjoy the 2mile Heron Walk. It was free and we saw lots of wildlife and loved the peacefulness of the place.

Went here for a walk around the pit on the Heron Trail. While we has a nice walk, the views of the lakes are limited to a few places and you have to walk along a quarry pit road for part of it. Nice view of the River Great Ouse.

I used to visit this site as it has all year round interest. However it has now become a dog walkers paradise and as a result a dog toilet. If faeces are not lying all over the ground it is hanging from the trees and bushes in plastic bags, Dogs are rarely on leads as advised. Reserve appears poorly managed with the exception of a few nest boxes.
If you are into wildlife avoid especially at weekends. There are better sites nearby. Even the Nightingales have deserted!

Great place to stroll around a d admire the landscape with its large range of wildlife. Well marked out walks of differing length suitable for different age and ability. Visitors centre offering local information plus toilets and tea/coffee. Plenty of parking spaces available, free of charge though donations to support the trust are more than welcome. Well worth a visit.

The sun was shining as we headed round the Heron Walk trail to stretch our legs on a Friday afternoon. The paths are good, as is signage. The part where you cross the busy quarry yard is rather churned-up and very muddy; take great care doing that as large plant moves quickly along the road there. We discovered another National pathway which tracks the river so we'll be back to do this in the summer.

We go here often and enjoy the walks around several lakes and along the river. There are hides to watch the birds and a visitor centre with lovely, well-informed volunteer staff (who make a very good cup of tea) . Lots of wildlife to see, although we haven’t yet been lucky enough to spot the resident otters.

How close is it to st Neots centre? Is it walking distance or a bus ride away? My parents are 80, we will not have a car whilst in st Neots. Thanks.

Hi, walking from the main river bridge in St Neots to the edge of the reserve is about 3km, with a further 1/2 km to the Visitors' Centre. It's along the Ouse Valley Way, which is a good path and well-signposted. Search Google for Ouse Valley Way - some sites include good maps.
Stagecoach route 66 goes from St Neots to Little Paxton, from where there's a short walk to the Visitors' Centre. Search Google for buses from St Neots to Little Paxton (sorry - TripAdvisor doesn't allow links in answers).

Can a disabled person with a stroller walk around on flat surfaces?
PauloB7
Peterborough, UK31 bijdragen
Hi Margaret,
Yes, there are extensive well-surfaced paths near the Visitors' Centre, and a wooden boardwalk. The paths furthest from the Visitors' Centre (nearest the river) are a bit more uneven. The voluntary wardens at the Visitors' Centre will be very happy to advise you where best to wander.

is there disabled access

It is probably best to contact the reserve about this but I can tell you it is mostly flat although sometimes on grass so a mobility scooter would be Ok. A bit hard for anyone pushing a wheelchair I should think. You could easily get from the car park to the visitor centre but I cannot remember if the hides have steps. I don't think so but check. Hope this helps as it is a lovely place .

Is there a cafe where you can get sandwiches at Paxton pits
PauloB7
Peterborough, UK31 bijdragen
Hi Terry,
There isn't a cafe serving sandwiches, but refreshments are available in the Vistor's Centre which include tea, coffee, soup, chocolate bars and crisps (I think).
Best regards
