We so love this place. It became our go-to destination for fall/Halloween fun several years ago when another popular orchard, much closer to DC, became way too overrun and congested to be enjoyable. We almost gave up on fall farm fun entirely, but then decided to give Summers farm a shot and we're so glad we did.

We had many wonderful experiences at the old Summers farm location but after a while even that one started to feel a bit crowded, as word of mouth spread that it was logistically easier than navigating the ones closer to DC. But then they moved to a new location, only about 5-10 minutes further out for us, and there they have tons of growing room. Now there is no feeling of crowdedness at all. Yesterday we had our run of the place, enjoying our favorite activities over and over, never having to stand in line for anything.

Among our favorites: the "Flying Pigs," basically kind of a miniature low-tech zipline close to the ground. This year they had it rigged up better than ever, we were able to get more speed without scraping ground. We still love the ring game where you try to get a small ring dangling from a string to catch on a hook. We still love the ducky races, powered by frantically pumping water. The corn mazes are great (though we usually wimp out and just do the short one). We love the pillow bounce, the various other mazes, the slides, the basketball/baseball/football tosses, the pumpkin train caravan, the wagon ride to the pumpkin patch and so much more.

We think the food is good, too. Word to the wise: the pizza counter is around the corner from the main sandwich counter and usually there's no line there. Also make sure you buy some cider donuts and cookies at the sweets shop. We also had our first apple cider slushies yesterday and found them refreshing on a warm, sunny day.

We recommend going there early in the fall season (like we did yesterday), to beat the crowds and also before the pumpkin patches are picked over. This year we found tons of great pumpkins to choose from out in the vines, but if we hadn't, they had several gorgeous ones pre-picked and sitting by the check-out area.

We also think the staff are also very nice and polite. It's also a better deal price-wise than the places closer to DC.

Anyway, whenever autumn rolls around, we immediately think of Summers Farm, and of all the treasured family memories we have generated there.

We have been taking our kids to Summers farm for years but they have changed locations and the new place is an absolute nightmare. Do not let the reviews fool you, anyone who enjoyed their visit must have went before they moved. I can not know the motivation for the move but from the outside it just looks like greed. They new location can get more people in but we had over an hour in the traffic trying to get in the front gate. They are surely absolutely destroying the quality of life for the quiet neighborhood they are now in. There were lengthy lines but getting food for our kids was an absolute disaster. They had 3 lines. The shortest line was for personal pizzas. We waited 30 minutes to place our order. We order 3 pizzas then after placing the order we waited a close to 1 hour to get our first of the 3 pizzas. 10 minutes or so later, our second pizza came out. They gave it to one of the many families that had also been waiting an hour. The young man that was handing out out the food was very nice and trying to make the best of everything but it was a complete disaster. The family they gave our pizza to gave it back to him he then gave it to yet another family then he turned to me realized it was mine and asked that family if he could have it back to give to me. I politely told them both it was ok I would wait for the next one but had he given it to me I would have been the third person handling that pizza. The other family felt bad for us and my hungry daughter and was willing to give it to us too, all of the families there were in the same boat, starving kids, 1 part of their order would come after waiting an hour and then it could be another 45 minutes or more for the rest of your order. When I did finally get my second pizza, it was wrong but I told them it was fine and we would take it anyway. We got my wife and daughter sitting down so they could eat. I went back to get my pizza, it still had not even been made, it was now getting late and we had been dealing with this for close to 2 hours at that point. I gave up on eating so we could get my daughter to a few more activities before they closed. The owners of this farm should be absolutely ashamed of themselves, they moved their venue where they could increase ticket sales and number of attendees but did not at all reinvest nearly what was required to maintain even a reasonable human experience. Every person who got food there or tried to was completely frustrated, sad and angry for their kids. The young employees were completely overwhelmed and working in a horrible situation. Most of the employees were a really example of how to deal with a tough situation with the exception of one young lady who was "organizing" the orders and would yell that "everyone needs to be patient" at a bunch of families with young children who had been patiently waiting for their food for well over an hour. The owners of this farm are responsible for that situation their guests and employees experience. If you live in that neighborhood and went out for a jar of baby food it would absolutely take you hours. These owners are creatinga horrible situation for their employees, their guests and they are destroying a community. I hope that the county that has issued licenses to this venue either limits their absolute unfettered greed and forces them to limit their ticket sales to a crowd they can reasonably serve and the roads are designed to handle or they are shut down completely.

It had become tradition for my family to visit Butler's Orchard, but then we heard from colleagues about this place.

A bit of a drive for us, but on a nice weekend morning, here we drove for the fall festival.

Here is what I loved about Summers Farm:

*Takes Credit Card (and you can pre-purchase/order your tickets online)
*lots of different Animals, a Pig Race, and even good you can purchase to feed the goats
*Plenty of space so you don't feel claustrophobic when a million other families come.
*Lots of activities, especially fun for my 3-year old. They built a brand new playground/climbing set that is great for older kids (like 5-9)
*Lots of little photo ops sign areas
*Scavenger hunt for kids 12 & under, where you can win a prize, on top of all the activities there
*Bonfire pit rentals anyone?!
*Friendly Staff
*3 food stations
*Plenty of clean Porta Potty's
*No parking fee

Loved Summers Farm Fall Festival - they keep their website up to date - Plus!!

We will definitely be back, thank you!

So my family & I LOVE Summers Farm! We went for the third year last week & it was even better than the last two years. HOWEVER. Last year at the petting zoo/animal farm section, we encountered a man taking care of the livestock who was incredibly rude to us, particularly our youngest who was FOUR at the time. He was using a pitchfork to put hay into the donkey's pen & our girl was standing at the fence. He, obviously irritated that there was a child there while he was working, swung the pitchfork OVER her head & literally dumped hay onto her while at the same time risking injuring her with a pitchfork, which was about an inch from her forehead. We said something to him, & he told us, in front of her, that it was "HER FAULT" IF SHE WASN'T "BRIGHT ENOUGH TO MOVE." We spoke to the ownership & they handled it well, we thought. They gave us tickets to come this year & ensured us that they would take care of this man. They also insinuated that we were not the first to have an issue with him.

Last week. We had a great day. We went to visit the animals. We even had a "haha" moment remembering our donkey experience from last year.

Our now-five-year-old was lovingly petting the donkeys while her dad was using the restroom. I walked over to the signage on the donkey fencing & made SURE it didn't say anything about not petting them. They all said the same thing: do not FEED the donkeys. Okay.

Not one minute after she started petting the donkeys do I see an angry looking, albeit somewhat familiar man hovering in the corner of the gate enclosure (but on the outside, so I thought for a moment he was just a customer like us). He was glaring at her, & then sternly said "THEY'LL BITE YOU." I looked closer & realized it was our friend from last year! What fun.

I felt my blood pressure rising but calmly said "She's fine. There is no sign that says they are not to be pet. There are tons of kids petting all of the animals here. I just double checked, & they say just to not feed them." He yells back at me, "& WHAT DOES THAT MEAN TO YOU." Umm... don't feed them?? I stared at him & said "What." He repeated the question like I was a three-year-old. I said, "You know what? You're the same guy that almost poked her in the head with a pitchfork last year & we had to speak to the owners about you! If there isn't a sign saying don't pet the donkeys, why would all these kids assume they're not supposed to pet the donkeys?!" He says, "Well I'll have to make sure they say that. Talk to the owners about whatever you want, but they'll bite." OK buddy.

There was a group of women with small children witnessing this, who then said that he had just yelled at them before we came over.

Meanwhile, our older girl (10) is pounding on the bathroom door: "Dad, get out here NOW." I look at the bathroom door for five seconds & then back to the friendly man. He vanished! I'm pretty sure he remembered his encounter with their father the previous year & when he heard him barreling out of the bathroom, he decided to disappear.

Our doting protector waited around for a WHILE to catch this guy, with the goal of forcing him to apologize to us (swoon) <3. He also, again, spoke to the employees about this guy & even referenced our experience with him from last year, saying they obviously did not take care of the situation if our encounter with him this year was even worse. They gave us tickets AGAIN for next year (How about a refund? Obviously, we are not having a great experience by coming there anymore!) & tried to find the man because my guy was still determined for him to apologize. They couldn't find him, said they'd "get us in contact" (they didn't take our information) & that it's "weird this happened because he's only there for five minutes to take care of the animals" - ok, well, he obviously optimizes his time while he's around other humans.

I'm not about messing with people's livelihoods. It's not our goal to get this guy fired. But if this business prioritizes the customer experience, it's their responsibility to actually take care of it. I can't believe how we've been treated not once but twice - it's not right, & I'm sick about having to tell our little girl that she did nothing wrong, again, & that some people are just not very nice. We should NOT have to have this talk with her because Summers hasn't taken this concern seriously.

Had a fun time with our grandchildren. Lots to entertain the children as there is lots do, so plan on spending hours there. You can feed the animals, jump on two very large bounces, play in multiple kids silo of corn, slides, hay ride to pick pumpkins, etc. Benches to sit on while watching your children. Good eats. Evenings there are camp fires and seating as well as fireworks.

We have been here for several seasons and the place is usually great. This past weekend though it rained while we were there. Man when it rains, this place turns into a mud pit!

My kids and everyone was slipping all over the place. Cars skidding down the mud in the parking lot. Most things closed. Very dangerous place because the whole place turns into a mud pit!

They gave free tickets back on the way out so we'll come back when it isn't rainy or muddy.

Just watch the weather and don't go if it's supposed to rain!!

First time visiting summers farm with the grandkids. Many activities for the kids to do and be just kids. Parking is very easy and the usual fair food is available. One price admission covers most all activities and live animals are here to pet.
Had a great October day here and will visit again.

We were at Summers farm on Saturday. It had rained a couple days before and areas that you had to walk in to get back down the hill to some food stands were very muddy, even though they had put some pine shaving. They should have added more later. We watched the fireworks which were very good. We ordered hotdogs and fries and had to wait over half an hour to get them. Corn maze was hard to follow, signs didn't make sense even if you knew the answers to the clues. Which by the way we're questions about baseball crap. Why not just general knowledge questions. Don't think we will be going back.

I cant say enough good about the fun to be had at Summers Farm. They always have great corn mazes and pumpkin patch, but my family's favorites are the slides, corn crib, giant bouncing pillows, fire sites for rent and the homemade kettle corn and apple spiced donuts. It is WELL worth the drive from wherever you live.
