My daughter and I spent the night in Chambersburg this past month on our way to Gettysburg. We had planned to spend at least most of the day in your city. Unfortunately, there was no literature or information about the historical sites at our hotel property, the LaQuinta. We asked for directions to the museum at the hotel and stopped several times while driving around without success. We left the hotel at 8 a.m. with full knowledge the Visitor's Bureau opened at 10 a.m. Around 9 a.m., I became frustrated with some of your local businesses who had no idea what I was talking about. We left and headed to Gettysburg a day early. I thought you needed to know our experience. A stop in Chambersburg because my great grandfather, Capt. James W. Bausell, CSA, was in your city when it was burned during the Civil War. He refused to carry out orders to burn several houses and ordered his men to retreat. We'll make a trip again but I'll be better prepared the next time. I drove from Columbus, Ohio; my daughter is from Lexington, KY.
