A terrific tour with a terrific company. My guide Mohamad was absolutely fantastic. His knowledge of the area and the culture is terrific. This tour company goes out of its way to communicate effectively and early in the planning process. Very reliable and very honest.

We had such a great time with Macrobia Expeditions! From the start, they were super responsive and helpful, especially with guiding us through the visa process, which can be a bit tricky. They always had great suggestions and made everything so easy for us.
In Somaliland, we toured with Abdilahi, who was fantastic. He knew so much about the history and culture and was just a really nice guy to spend time with. He even took us to a local show one evening that wasn’t part of our original plan, which made the trip feel even more special.
In Djibouti, Akram was our guide, and he was amazing too. He welcomed us into his home for tea and coffee with his wife, which was such a kind gesture. He also gave us great advice on what to buy and where to shop, which was super helpful.
Overall, we felt completely safe and well taken care of the whole time. If you’re thinking of visiting Somaliland or Djibouti, I’d 100% recommend Macrobia Expeditions and will for sure contact them for future trips!

I had an interesting & enjoyable escorted tour of Somaliland locally organised by Macrobia Expeditions visiting Hargeisa, Las Geel, Berbera, Sheikh, Dhagus Koura and Borama. My local guide Abdilahi was efficient, punctual and looked after me so well.
He also is very knowledgeable on birds, as I saw surprisingly number of birds which he identified.

I used Somaliland travel in Somaliland last year and they were excellent. I went back to them to arrange a half day trip to Lac Assal, Djibouti. This took place on Saturday Dec 14th. I flew in on QR at noon and was collected at the airport and driven to the stunning Lac Assal with photo stops along the way. After some time at the lowest point in Africa they took me back to Djibouti city for a short orientation drive around and deposited me at the Sheraton at 5pm. All good. Spent Sunday morning walking around town (no issues at all) and left on the 3pm Fly Dubai plane.

I had a wonderful week with Somaliland Travel (now Macrobia), in Somaliland and Djibouti.
Everything was perfect from the beginning to the end and I felt really safe. My guides: Abdi in Somaliland and Akram in Djibouti were just great.
The pace was just ideal, with a good balance between visits and time to relax.
Accommodations were more than decent.
The two countries are quite different from each other (culture, language, food, landscapes, things to see). Visiting both in one week provides a good break, away from tourists, particularly in Somaliland.
My favorites places: Laas Geel in Somaliland, Lac Assal and Lac Abbé in Djibouti.
Everything was perfect from the beginning to the end and I felt really safe. My guides: Abdi in Somaliland and Akram in Djibouti were just great.
The pace was just ideal, with a good balance between visits and time to relax.

Our tour to Djibouty and Somaliland was so much memorable and successful. We booked our joint tours through Somali land travel agent and they were very professional and quick in response and feedback. In Djibouty, Akram was our local guide tour and driver to Lake Assal and Lake Abbe and he did great job in managing the time and road difficulties throughout the trip. He provided us with so many information about the life and culture in Djibouty. In Somaliland, we’ve been escorted by Abdilahi, our local guide tour, and we did an amazing city tour in Hargeisa and Berbera.

Coming to a small country on the Horn of Africa that many people have never heard of, I was treated to the most spectacular white glove experience by Akram my tour guide on 2 full days of touring. Nothing was left to chance, – they suggested a fine hotel for me with a pool to enjoy the great weather, and we toured all of the highlights in the comfort of a comfortable SUV across different sets of terrain. We got an in-depth look at the city with its downtown area, religious structures, and authentic baked fish dinner at a great restaurant where we toward the open flame kitchen. Then onto Lake Assal, the lowest point in Africa to see the salt flats and the tectonic plate and meet quite a few local folks along the way and share a smile!
My Guide Akram was as good as they get. You could not ask for someone who tended to anything you could possibly need during the day, including a cooler full of cold waters for both me and Village folks in the hot sun,stops for coffee, baked pastry, filled with dates from his own house, great relationships with the people along the way we met and a great explanation of the countries history so that I felt I was a part of everything. If there was such a thing as six stars, that’s what I would rate this tour!
My Guide Akram was as good as they get. In September, we took a 1-Day Lake Assal and Djibouti City tour. The tour was very interesting and well organized. The guide was knowledgeable, kind, nice and helpful. I can recommend this tour and the organizers with a clear conscience

I decided to pay a visit to Somaliland, intrigued by the history of a country that has proclaimed itself independent but not yet recognized internationally (except for Taiwan). I wanted to do the combined tour with Djibouti, but the excessive heat of that place actually conditioned the choice. I enjoyed the trip very much; there was no problem and everything was organized for the best. Of all the things seen, the most fascinating are undoubtedly the cave paintings of Las Geel, a site of absolute interest. The other prehistoric site visited (dhagax khoure) is nestled in a beautiful landscape dotted with rocks, in a very beautiful natural setting. Cities are characterized, more than for the monuments, for the liveliness of life, for the markets, for the people you meet. There were no security issues. Special thanks to Guide Mohamed, always attentive, kind, prepared and present. In short, ultimately, a more than significant experience.
