Visiting Downtown Flushing was a real shock and a phenomenal experience. Flushing has attracted many recent immigrants from China and other parts of Asia. This has created an authentic and contemporary "Chinatown" experience, much better than that in Manhattan. It is a very vibrant community. You would think that you are walking around Beijing. Plenty of opportunities for shopping and eating. In addition to street vendors selling produce, seafood and other items, there are a couple fascinating indoor shopping centers including the New World Market which has an amazing food court that should not be missed. There is also the more modern Tangram Mall. Easy to visit here by riding the 7 train to the end of the line just one stop down from the Met's CitiField.

The last stop in New York’s Chinatown is Flushing Chinatown in Queens. The reason I left it until the end is because it is conveniently located on the road to JFK or La Guardia airports. Therefore, in addition to being filled with Chinese shops and shopping malls, this area is also a place with many hotels. Moreover, the price is also relatively affordable. Therefore, next time you come to New York and want to stay for a while without spending too much money, hotels in this area are a good choice.
When I walked out of the subway station, I felt like I was in Malaysia or Singapore. Because this is indeed a Chinese town, with Chinese signs all over the street, and almost all of the shops and shopping malls on the street are Chinese. This is a newly developed Chinatown. It is also the Chinatown that has expanded the fastest in recent years. Because it is new, the proportion of new domestic immigrants is higher than that of Manhattan and Brooklyn.
Because of the heavy rain, I mainly visited the Chinese supermarkets in this area. First, I entered a store called "Xinlongxing Supermarket" and walked around.
Just like the Chinese supermarkets I've been to in Seattle before, it has a complete range of Chinese and Western products. In addition, there is no shortage of meat and seafood. Among them, there are many different varieties of live lobsters. If I were a local overseas Chinese, I would definitely bring a whole lobster back to my house from time to time to make the whole family happy.
The rain stopped for a while, so I went back to walking around the streets. When I reached one of the spots, I found a small shopping mall full of Chinese signs. As soon as I entered, I felt like I had returned to Hong Kong, to a small shopping mall in Mong Kok. Suddenly, I felt a little cordial.
Looking at the map on my phone, I decided to make a circle and go back to the subway station. I discovered that this Chinatown is not just a street, but shopping malls, commercial buildings, and malls one after another. I felt like I was shopping in a small Asian shopping district.
Back to the subway station, train station. I encountered heavy rain again. Out of curiosity, I walked into a multi-story shopping mall. I went to the middle floor first because it was the Chinese supermarket that attracted me. This "New World Supermarket" is similar to the supermarket I went to before, but the overall feeling is better. The reason is that it's much neater here.
On the next level, there is a small shopping mall plus restaurants. There are small Shanghai restaurants and large Cantonese-style restaurants. Classrooms for children to learn Chinese, Taekwondo, and Karate can all be found here.
After walking, I got hungry. Just when I was about to walk back down the street to find a Chinese restaurant, I discovered that there was a food court on the basement level of this shopping mall. Out of curiosity, of course I went to take a look and find a shop where I could have afternoon tea easily.
To put it bluntly, Chinese people living in Queens really don’t need to go to Manhattan or Brooklyn to buy Chinese goods. Moreover, as far as I know, many Chinese in New York live in the Long Island area, and the location of Flushing is definitely convenient for the Chinese living in that area. No wonder, this Chinese community is getting bigger and bigger, and its status is becoming more and more important.

If your a fan of hand ripped noodles or soup dumplings you have to visit downtown Flushing. You can easily spend a whole day shopping and eating amazing food at the New World mall or any of the hundred other Asian restaurants.

Chinatown in Manhattan is small and very touristy. Flushing is the real Chinatown of NYC. As Manhattan's Chinatown shrinks, Flushing's Chinatown is only getting bigger. Take the #7 train to the last stop "Main Street". Parking can be very tricky.
There are many authentic restaurants here with old school scratch cooking. You will have no trouble finding a dim sum spot for lunch. Shopping is very plentiful too, especially on Main Street and Roosevelt Avenue. The bakeries are amazing. Come hungry and leave full and do some shopping.
Downtown Flushing is near and dear to my heart. I was born and raised there. There is no place like it. It is the real deal Chinatown.
