I had a long time to plan my trip to Bhutan. Due to the Pandemic it had to be cancelled twice (and a third time for ice in my area.) I was excited about seeing this unique and amazing country. Once I got over the cost (admiring the philosophy behind it) I had ongoing email with Anand about how I like to travel. I am not a tour person....at all...so that part gave me pause. I am also in my 70s so not able to do the treks (ok I wasn't able to do them in my 20s either!). I had read about buffets and eating primarily in your hotel, neither of which I wanted to do. I love trying local restaurants and sampling authentic cuisine. Finally, I have learned from experience that I don't like going a new place every few days. Rather I love to settle into a place, become familiar with it, and let the feeling of the place and the people wash over me. Anand understood all this and assured me it was possible to experience Bhutan this way.
In fact, the experience exceeded my expectations. I can't say enough about my guide, Pema, and my driver, Tenzin. I ended up suspecting the cold I thought I'd arrived with was actually Covid. They arrived in 10 minutes from my call and waited for the test. I was quarantined for 5 days in the lovely Tshongdu Boutique with a great view of Paro. Pema and Tenzin brought me breakfast and my required daily cappuccino from a nearby cafe. They were available to get anything I asked for. After quarantine we got in the habit of meeting at nearby local restaurants, and I enjoyed amazing Bhutanese food (I now make ema datshi at home). I loved Bhutan and I loved Wind Horse Tours for being so gracious in letting me experience it my way! Amazing place and people!

My Bhutan tour with Wind Horse Tours, Treks and Travels was incredible! My guide and driver (both named Jimmy) were knowledgeable, resourceful, kind, creative, fun and generous! They truly made my Bhutan tour a unique experience and true adventure. I felt like I was traveling with family/friends.

I traveled with this company in Nepal and had a wonderful experience. The planning and execution of this trip by Heera and my guide, Samjhana was perfect. All accommodations were clean and comfortable. The food was excellent. My drivers were safe and professional. With their planning I was able to see and experience so much in Nepal. My guide Samjhana was extremely knowledgeable everywhere we visited. Nepal is an absolutely beautiful country and I highly recommend travel there.

A friend and I visited Bhutan in May of 2019, so this review is long overdue. I can't recommend Wind Horse tours enough - Pema was our guide, and he and our driver were both fantastic! The attention to detail and care for us for 12 days was second to none.

They were very kind, professional and easygoing. Pema always had our itinerary/permits etc ready when we entered a temple, and knew so much Bhutan's history and culture. Our driver (I'm sorry, I forgot his name!) was also was excellent at managing any bumpy or unpaved roads we needed to go on. My friend and I felt very safe the whole time.

We did about a private tour of 5 days of touring and cultural sites and then another 4-5 days of the Jomolhari trek and of course we visited Tiger's Nest.

And can I mention that we stayed at some pretty nice hotels too? They were kind of ornate with Bhutanese art

I just returned from my second trip to Bhutan and my second tour with WindHorse Tours. Both trips were exceptional. The first tour was a group cultural/walking tour that was extremely well organized and we were able to visit most of the highlights of western Bhutan including the climb to Tiger's Nest Monastery. I returned to Bhutan 4 months later for a custom 20-day cultural/horse trekking tour. WindHorse worked with me to ensure that the itinerary was what I wanted and they worked hard on the ground to make sure that I enjoyed the tour. My guide, Yeshi, and my driver, Tenzin, ended up being more like family than just my guide and driver. As a lone female traveler, I never felt unsafe at any point during the tour - including the 5 day camping/horse trek in the mountains of Bumthang. While I was in Bhutan for the second tour, the COVID-19 pandemic really took off. As Bhutan closed its borders to future travelers, Yeshi worked hard to ensure that I had up-to-date information and that my tour was impacted as little as possible (which was sometimes difficult). I have to commend WindHorse Tours for going above and beyond in what is normally expected from a tour company to ensure that I was able to get home safely. Yonten and Dorji, from the office in Thimphu, worked with the Indian Embassy and Druk Airlines to lessen the chances that I would get quarantined in a foreign country on my journey home by re-routing my flight itinerary. Without their help I would probably still be quarantined in India instead of at home a week later writing this review.

The horse trekking part of the tour was exceptional and the highlight of my tour. Each day we rode between 3-5 hours on a variety of different trails. The last two days of the trek were the best - following ancient trails over mountain passes - the scenery was just surreal. Yeshi made sure we had a good lunch daily on the trek and that camp was always set up in the evenings. The horses were sure-footed and well behaved made the trek enjoyable. On this tour, I also had the opportunity attend the Punakha Festival (which if you have not attended a masked dance festival in Bhutan - you should), and hiked several new trails. If you have not heard, the roads in Bhutan are horrible - expect very long commutes from town to town when driving - but that is also part of Bhutan's charm. Eat local if you get the chance - some of the best food that I had was in local restaurants. I hope to get the chance to go back and travel in eastern Bhutan - I would not travel with any other tour company- only WindHorse Tours.

It is with great pleasure that I write this testimonial. I have been doing adventure travel for over thirty years and while I have been to the Himalayas several times this was my first time in Bhutan. I am happy to say, the concept of Gross National Happiness indeed exists and I have been lucky enough to experience it. My walking trip to Bhutan with Wind Horse Tours ranks in the top three of my adventure trips. Yeshi, our guide, and Amber our driver, are simply the best of the best. I look forward to returning to Bhutan when the rhodedendron are in full bloom and look forward to once again being with Yeshi and Amber.

My son and I just returned from a truly wonderful 2-week trip (1-week cultural tour, 1-week trek) to Bhutan with Windhorse. The firm is well-established and very professional, and our trip was well-planned from beginning to end. Our kind and knowledgeable guide Pema, excellent driver Kinzang, and hard-working cooks and horsemen took great care of us. Pema would always say, "You're satisfaction is my satisfaction" and he genuinely meant it. Our Himalayan trek took us far away from the modern world and offered the most beautiful scenery I've ever seen. I highly recommend Windhorse and can't wait to return to explore more of Bhutan with them.

This April my father and I took the "Three Himalayan Kingdoms" tour, which was, to pen a cliche, the trip of a lifetime. Wind Horse is absolutely impeccable when it comes to communication and planning. They take you by the hand (sometimes literally on a few of the hikes) through the whole process and make sure your entire trip goes off with minimal hitches. And being that this is the ever-reclusive country of Bhutan we're talking about, getting us in smoothly is no small feat. They took care of our permits, visas, tickets, transportation, guides, and some meals. Of course, traveling to Bhutan is pricy - there's no way around it. But if you can swing it, you won't regret it.

In our case, Tibet, Kathmandu, and Bhutan were three very, very different experiences.

Tibet, in all honesty, was a disappointment in that the Chinese have chopped off every single tree in the region at about the six foot mark. It's a ecological genocide akin to the Lorax. The people of Tibet seem depressed and lethargic, as they are an occupied and lost kingdom, and they know it. Of course, this isn't Wind Horse's fault, but it's a reality you should be aware of. Potala Palace makes it worth it, and despite my complaints, Tibet does remain one of the most unique places I've ever been. And how many of your friends can say they've been to Tibet?

Kathmandu is absolute madness... but it was still a step up from Tibet. Despite what appears to be complete anarchy, there is a vibrance to the city that I've never seen anywhere else. They have quickly recovered from their devastating earthquake and they're almost done rebuilding everything, as of April 2019. Durbar Square and the market streets surrounding it are right out of Indiana Jones. And I never thought I'd watch public cremations happen, where they sweep all of the ashes into the river afterward. The accommodation they provided in Kathmandu was fantastic, btw.

Lastly we got to the crown jewel of the trip - Bhutan, the closest thing I've ever come to seeing the Shire in real life (yes I know you can actually visit the Shire in New Zealand but I've never been). The country's obsession with Gross National Happiness is a polar opposite from Tibet, and it's honestly infectious. It would be very difficult to be unhappy in Bhutan. Their food is a bit lacking, but their scenery, kindness, hospitality, and amazing temples are not.

A word of warning - if you go to Bhutan, you will inevitably do the Taktsang Monastery hike (Tiger's Nest). THIS IS THE MOST BRUTAL HIKE I HAVE EVER EXPERIENCED. Do not take it lightly. Bring snacks and power bars. It is grueling to the point of delirium, I almost wonder if the monastery at the end was a vivid hallucination.

Another word of warning - take their warning to not drink the water seriously. My dad and I followed their advice... but used water when brushing our teeth... and that was enough to wipe us out for a day or two. No matter who you are, bring anti-diarrheal medication.

In the end, Wind Horse Tours more than delivered. We saw everything they promised and more. If you're a wild adventurer and still have Bhutan on your bucket list, Wind Horse is the way to go.

I had booked a tour with Wind Horse Travels for our family vacation tour of 10 days to Darjeeling Sikkim Bhutan. It was a great experience with Wind Horse specially considering that I booked the trip very close to our vacation schedule. The hotels, resorts and rooms were spacious with neat, clean and hygienic washrooms. Entire tour planning was excellent with proper time schedule followed by Wind Horse staffs. Driving in Himalaya terrain requires lot of patience and attendance. The cars provided were comfortable and drivers were trained to drive in Himalaya terrain especially the driver in Bhutan was actually an extra helping hand. Pick up and drop off to and from Bagdogra airport was managed very well. Overall the experience with Wind Horse Travel was excellent. I looked forward to again book my tour with them. Thanks Wind Horse for excellent work.

For 18 years it has been a wish of mine to visit the beautiful and amazing country of Bhutan. This year it became reality (February 21 - March 4). I participated in a tour with 10 other travelers and we did the wild and amazing trek in the southern part of Bhutan - following the trail that Guru Rinpoche traveled hundreds of years ago. It is part of the Jigme Singye Wangchuck National Park. It was a wonderful experience and time spent in a remote area. After the trek we travel by bus to places like Trongsa, Phobjikha Valley (the black cranes!), Punakha, Thimpu and Paro. On the last day we climbed to the Tigers Nest - Paro Taktsang. The entire trip was wonderful and I highly recommend Wind Horse Tours and Travel for your Bhutan experience!
