A few blocks out of town but with very interesting and varied exhibits. It is worth the walk and has something to interest everyone. Don't miss!

The Elverhoj Museum was the hightlight of our trip to Solvang. The history was so interesting. The exhibits were well done and there was a wonderful tour guide that was very pleasant, friendly and answered all our questions. It was free admission with donations accepted. It was easy to find in a quiet part of town. We are so glad we made it a priority to stop here. Small gift shop. Nice area in back yard with seating.

Every once in a while a traveler will stumble upon a small museum off the beaten path that takes their breath away. That is how I would describe the Elverhoj Museum - simply a rare treasure hidden in a gem of a town.
First, the docents are amazing and so incredibly proud and knowledgeable of their town and this museum. Their stories frame the mission of the museum very well.
Secondly, the building- an established home that has been converted to a museum - is simply stunning. There is a great amount of original homestead juxtaposed with artwork, historical photos, and antiques. A good portion of the home that was once an art studio, is now a dedicated space to others' artwork. When we were visiting there was a lovely sculpture display that was worth meandering and soaking. in!
Lastly, the gift shop. Oh my, what wonderful options we found. From stunning amber jewelry to the selection of books. I loved it ALL!
Make the ELVERJOJ MUSEUM a PRIORITY VISIT if you are bound for Solvang. So glad we found it - and we will be back!!

Must see! 30-60 minutes of Danish and Solvang history. Great to see another example of how the west was settled. Well done!

The docent was excellent and provided a thorough overview of the town's history. Don't miss walking in the back area and barn.

I am rating this site as excellent, as it is a must see if you are visiting Solvang.
Very welcoming and knowledgeable staff.
Very informative on the history of the area.
When we were there in March 2020 they had an exhibit of Rembrandt sketches which was an added bonus.
They also had some history of how Denmark saved many Jews during WWII, including a very well done short video.

You come upon a beautifully carved front door with a traditional Danish story depicted. We were welcomed to the house with an explanation of the family's background and history, giving us our bearings when looking around. You also gain some brief insights into the immigration of the Danish in the 19th century, how they lived, what they did. There is also a bookshop and some gift items to buy in the main room. There is no charge for admission, instead a voluntary donation box.

The Elverhoj museum is a bit out of the way but don't miss it. It is extremely well done. They have provided a nice balance of information, not too heavy or too much, and displays to tell the story of the early settlers. Good quality gift shop. If you have a short time in Solvang, this is the place to stop to learn why it's all here.

Very pleasant experience, you can see everything in an hour or so. Nice curator and gift store with genuine craft work.
