Make sure a person in the center does show you around and tell you the incredible story of this place. They have a working studio as well as a separate (locked) room where they keep their art treasures. If you ask the right questions, you get in return the detailed history of the local Native Americans and what happened to them and to their traditions and art. We found this place to be fascinating. We could not have enough of those unbelievable carvings of Totem Poles and the meaning of each pole.

This Arts center is located in the hospital building of the Old Fort Seward, on the left side of the Fort as you go up the hill. It is a non profit which is dedicated to promoting and preserving the arts and crafts and culture of the Northwest Coastal Native American tribes. Totem poles are carved here. There is also printmaking. Great place for an introduction to Northwest Native American culture, but go to the nearby Jilkaat Kwaan Heritage Center to see more in a Klukwan village.

This building doesn't look like much. But, inside they have and make incredible items. This is part of Fort Seward so look all around! The people are informative and happy to answer questions. They actually carve totems here and much more. I'm totally fascinated with halibut hooks. This is free and worth some time.

Great art and people that love to share what they do and the history of the area. This place doesn't look like much but the true beauty is in exploring the art, the history and by asking lots of questions - the people here love to chat and share what they know. Stop in. Ask questions. Worth a visit.

I found a wonderful wolf print at a very reasonable price. It is on very high quality rag paper, and a fine piece of art. The only native gallery I've ever visited where they will carve you a custom totem pole!

This is a very interesting place to visit, an old historical building full of Alaskan Art. Art being created and restored. Just walking here we were treated to totems outside other buildings. I'd travel to Haines over Skagway any day!

This place has some pretty amazing history, and some really interesting art work, photos and historic artifacts. It was a special thing to see someone working away in the carving studio, and the staff are really informative folks!

Great place to watch Haida carvers and view totems in historic Fort William Seward. The curator is very knowledgeable and gave me a lot of information about the museum and the area.
