Muddy but worth it

this is one of the less visited parks in Costa Rica but I'm not really sure why. It is adjacent to the parks in the Osa Peninsula and shares the same kind of biodiversity. On my hike, I saw lots of really beautiful plants and lots of wildlife, particularly things like lizards and frogs. It's definitely a no frills park and the trails are very muddy and steep but they are worth the effort. Visitors have to park in a very small parking lot outside of an ecolodge for a small fee. To get to the trail, you walk another 5 minutes down the road and then go up a long grassy hill which takes you to the trail system. I really enjoyed my hike here and saw a lot of things but I definitely left tired.

Where are the white rocks?

As soon as we arrived we saw three interesting bird species. But as soon as we started our hike we had to cross the river and hike up a muddy trail. We never spotted any birds after the first 5 minutes. The biggest disappointment was there were no entrance station or information center or anybody to recommend where the best trail was or other information. It appears that most of the park contains old palm oil orchards. ?

Wir sind sehr enttäuscht. Nur Abzocke. Die Zeit und das Geld kann man sparen um fast nur Palmen und schilf an zu schauen. Das Personal ist gar nicht hilfsbereit.

A truly disappointing experience. We started with the worst rangers I've ever spoken to in any park. They were coming their breakfast as we arrived and we're worries more about their food than telling us where to go. We paid $10 pet adult and literally saw nothing. The trail that the ranger station told us to go to was underwater because the river it borders was overflowing. We were thinking with our two young boys and the teachers saw them with us when we bought the tickets. But none of them warned us that we were going to cross waist high waters in a strong flowing river in order to start their inexistent trail. We tried other entrances without success. And when we returned to ask for more information, they basically shrugged and repeated the same info. Is this how you run a Park? No wonder Boone comes here. Stay away and go see Drake Bay or something else in the OSA peninsula. This place is not for families.

fabulous rain forest experience, our room backed on to the forest where Howler monkeys called and visited us daily. We did an early morning hike where we saw, birds, a sloth, monkeys and snakes.

Beautiful and hidden national park in southern Costa Rica. Very remote but easily accessible through Golfo Dulce Retreat.

Went along the trails with our guide during a tour of Costa Rica. Probably the best NP in terms of unspoilt flora with wide variety of trees, ferns, orchids, heliconias etc and birds. Saw plenty of toucans.

A short walk in the wet rainforest

Piedras Blancas is a young national park and still under improvement. The ranger station is not easy to reach, as it is connected to Golfito, the closest town by a dirt road, which is recommended for 4x4 drive vehicles. There are only a few trails you can hike. A guide is recommended.
