We went on a Monkey Boat Tour on the Pacific side near the town of Quepas. I think that it was one of a number of monkey tours in the area. This one involved taking a boat down a stream with a driver and a tour guide.
The trip lasted 1 hour to 1 1/4 hours. It was lovely. Lush forest, birds and monkeys - wild and not very tamed. They required time to come to the boat for some banana. Not very much is fed to them to minimize dependence. This is a peaceful tour and well recommended. I can only recommend this tour . We stayed at the Costa Verde Hotel.

In August four of us were at the Azura Resort in Guanacasta, Costa Rica. We scheduled 3 Monkey Tour tours for our 2nd and 3rd days through their agent at the resort.. The second day we had the Sea Life Tour in the morning. Mediocre at best. Part of the tour promised snorkeling and that didn't happen. Boat seating was really uncomfortable. That evening (6:30 PM) we had the Turtle Nesting Tour. This one was okay. However, two of our party developed walking problems and the guide made arrangements for them to return to the resort. When the other two returned to the resort the injured 2 said there was no way they could do the 100% Adrenaline Tour the next morning at 6:30 AM. Our only connection to the tour company was the resort agent and she was not available. We left her a message on WhatsApp that we could not make the tour. Apparently that didn't get through since someone from Monkey Tours knocked on our doors the next morning. We explained there were medical problems and we were not going on the tour. Later that morning we talked to the agent at the resort. She then told us there could be no refund since there was not a 24 hour notice. This was not pointed out to us at the time of booking. Since we booked the last tour about 20 hours before, no refund was available for that tour. We were locked in when we made the reservation. We are very disappointed that there was no consideration for unexpected medical issues arising after the booking. There seems to be no consideration for unexpected circumstances. I have emailed the customer service for Monkey Tours twice since returning. I have never received a response. There is no way we would EVER book a tour with this company again. Buyer beware.

Booked an ATV ostensibly through Monkey Tours - it was really just the Azura hotel. They had one operative ATV in which I was offered the opportunity to drive a hotel employee around in while he directed me. But he didn’t know how to use things in the vehicle.
When I tried to call the international number from their website the link was incorrect and when I called the correct number it never connected.

Was supposed to go last May, obviously with Covid everything got canceled. This time spirit cancelled the flight…again. Tried to get in contact with monkey tours and there is absolutely no communication. I am the type that prints everything out, has everything in order and I try to leave nothing to chance. Everything about this trip is up to chance

The trip was amazing. Zip lining thru clouds and white water rafting were highlights. There was a fair amount of driving and the climates between the mountains and beaches were different, but I was very happy to see all that we did. Mario was a great driver and guide. I wished there was better pre trip communication, but it was also Covid times. We were allowed to move our March reservation to December. Overall, definitely recommend this trip.

In January 2020 we booked an ATV tour for 4 from Azura. When we went to go on the tour they said they had overbooked as they only had 2 working machines and another couple was also already on one of the ATVs. We decided to wait until the next day so that all of us could go together. When we started the tour the next day one of the ATVs kept sputtering and stalling. After about 1 mile we decided to turn back as we didn't want to be stuck in the forest. Remy the tour operator told us that it was not uncommon for the ATVs to break down and was told all 4 of us would be refunded. As of Septembr 2020 we have not yet received our refund. We are out $300 USD.

Great trip! Our tour guide Marcello and driver Memo were fantastic! They made our vacation memorable! They were knowledgeable and fun! I would recommend this group for your tour of Costa Rica.

This was an amazing tour! Do not let the bad reviews turn you off. It was worth every penny and I would definitely recommend it. I did not have any problem with airport pick-up, and we got in at 5:15 a.m.! Holiday Inn Express-Forum was fine. Nothing special as far as hotels go, but it was clean and had a decent breakfast. The bus is comfortable and our tour guide, Katia, was knowledgeable, fun and a great tour guide!! Ali was a wonderful photographer and I would highly recommend getting the photo package. She gets photos that your phone camera will not be able to capture. I would recommend that you work with her. If you want pictures, then smile for the camera and pose. She is good at what she does. Jorge was an excellent driver and you will really appreciate his expertise when you see how the roads wind around. I understand that the Volcano Poas can be difficult to see because of clouds, but we had a clear view. The smell wasn't pleasant but it was awesome to see an active volcano. We chose white water rafting and that was easily one of the highlights of our trip. The guides are professional - ours was on the National Rafting Team and this is his day job. I have never done it before and I'm not a good swimmer, but I felt safe and had a blast!! The other hotels are GORGEOUS! We even had a tub to soak in outside our room at Mountain Paradise. Yes, you are on a tour bus for a few hours sometimes, but how did you expect to go up and down and around volcanos? They are enormous. They stop regularly, so it doesn't get long. Ziplining and the skytram and walk are AMAZING! When can you say that you ziplined across the Continental Divide 660 feet in the air? I can't comment on the ride back to the airport, because we chose to go our own way after the tour, but I must say this was an amazing tour that I would recommend to any one. Go for it ! No airport pick up. No detailed itinerary. No communication, information once we arrived. No reservation at hotel. Taxi services and hotel clerks had no knowledge of this company. We were convinced it was a scam. Ended up spending $2000 out of pocket for hotel and 2 tours. Guide eventually did show up for another monkey tour and tried to be helpful but we had already made other arrangements. Not for the traveler who expects confirmed reservations and the tour as advertised.

Giving 5 stares to our guide (and photographer) Marcelo- he was excellent and made the tour fun and educational. Also 5 stars to our driver Eduardo- he was terrific and on some difficult roads at times. Would also rate the food as 5 stars- traditional Costa Rican cuisine and great choice. This is a wonderful way to see Costa Rica- mountains, volcanoes, zip lining, water rafting and hiking. There a some days when you spend a fair amount of time on the bus. A couple of hotel experiences were challenging- at Samara beach the staff was not particularly friendly and we had to wait a long time for check in. The last hotel-Tramonto was 3 stars at best. Overall, I would recommend this trip- it was a really good value and except for a couple hotels was thoroughly enjoyable.

Hi, I have this tour schedule to start next Sunday, I am calling for over a month, but not able to confirm my trip and where and who will pick me up from the airport. Lady who was responsible is not working there anymore. I was told multiple times that owner of the company will get back to me. He emailed me once asking to pay 15% upfront, but never confirmed the reservation. Did anyone had the same experience? Please advise. I am already very upset with the situation. Purchased trip through Viator. Called them multiple times. All they are saying if no one meets you call us. Does not sound right.

I booked my trip directly at our hotel in Samara and they were great. If you can't track down the tour company call Villas Playa Samara Hotel at +506 2503-1905 and ask for Remy at the tour desk. He is usually around in the mornings. He was very helpful.

The trip says there is a 15% sales tax to be paid. Can anyone comment on how they paid this? Did you pay via email? Do they take cash when you get there?

I paid via credit card directly to the company before I went down there. Can't say enough good things, absolutely loved our tour!

I've seen in videos that we visit a pottery maker during the Essentials tour. Is there a chance to purchase their wares?

The tour I went on didn't go to a pottery maker, so I can't comment on that directly. But I had many questions before my tour and they answered all of them through email. So I would send the company an email with all your questions. They are on "pura vida" time so it may take a few days, but they are good about answering questions.

Our tour did not include the gondola. That being said, there was a mother traveling with her adult daughter in our small group & they were going to skip the horseback ride & the zip line. Everyone in our group encouraged them to do it! They were fearful of both, since they live in NYC and had never done anything like this before. The mom was more up for it than the daughter, but they both rode the horses & ziplined down the mountain over a huge gorge! The daughter went tandem with a guide, but was in tears for the first few legs. Be the last few legs , she not only had a smile on her face, but did the last few solo! It was a life changing experience!

The monkey tours that is associated with Hotels Villa Playa Samara do take credit cards and you book any excursions through the Monkey Tours Operator located at the hotel.

I realize that this question was asked months ago, but for other travelers considering this tour or tour company, I will answer. We added an extra day at Playa Samara, because our tour ended there. We live in Alaska, so airfare is expensive and we took advantage of an extra day to enjoy the sun and some beach time. We booked it through Monkey Tours because it was easier to coordinate. We also added an extra day at the beginning of our tour because of our long travel time to get there and we wanted to be rested and relaxed before starting our tour. I highly recommend this if you can. Monkey Tours was extremely accommodating for our needs. They answered all of our questions prior to our trip. I also highly recommend the photographer package! It was so worth it. We can't wait to go back and we will definitely book with Monkey Tours again!

How strenuous is the tour? What level of hiking?

Hi! The hiking was mainly flat surfaces, distance 1-2 miles. There were a couple seniors, ages 70-80, in our group who had difficulty with the hike. The still did it, but it took longer and they weren’t prepared for it. I feel like if you can walk a few miles this shouldn’t be too challenging.
