A museum small in area but very rich in exhibition. We were accompanied by a friend who specializes in the Pacific arts, which enriched our visit.

Well worth a visit and if you are a senior ask for the concession price. If visiting as part of a cruise then the museum is within an easy walk of where the boat docks - just follow the waterfront path and where it goes inland follow main road past the sports ground and you are there. Level walk. You do not need taxi or tour.

Well worth a visit - there's a good range of interesting exhibits. Nice cafe, too. $20 entry for overseas visitors is a little steep, but I don't mind paying it to support the museum.

We enjoyed our visit. Some of the photos we’d seen look old but the museum looked very new, clean and modern. Nice displays and interesting facts.
We stayed for about 30 mins. That was long enough to have a wonder through with my 5yr old twins.

I recently visited the Fiji Museum during my holiday and had a wonderful experience overall. Here’s a comprehensive review of my visit:
Positives:
Beautiful Refurbishment: The museum has undergone a stunning refurbishment, making it a delight to explore. The updated interiors are both aesthetically pleasing and conducive to learning.
'Voyages' Exhibition: The addition of the 'Voyages' exhibition is a highlight. It provides fascinating insights into the seafaring history of Fiji and the Pacific Islands. The exhibits are well-curated, informative, and engaging, offering a deep dive into the maritime heritage of the region.
Negatives:
Missing Collection Pieces: Unfortunately, some of the collection was missing during my visit. It was disappointing not to see certain artifacts that I had hoped to view.
Closed Areas: Several areas of the museum were not open, which I assume are still awaiting work. It would have been nice to have access to the entire museum, but it’s understandable given the ongoing refurbishment efforts.
Overall Impression:
Despite the few negatives, my visit to the Fiji Museum was enjoyable and educational. The new exhibitions and refurbishments have significantly enhanced the visitor experience. I look forward to returning once all areas are open and the full collection is back on display

Limited displays and also limited themes
There is an emphasis on canoe travel and some info on tribal life and very little on English colonisation
Fiji was impacted by other Oceania nations such as Tonga and after the British the Indians
The museum has such a scope it’s a shame it’s almost a parody of island life
But it’s all they have in the way of museums so on a hot day worth a look but really quite disappointing

Simple but nicely done. There are several rooms depicting the history of Fiji......doesn't take long to go through it.
There is also washrooms, gift shop and refreshments on site. Next to the museum is the Thurston Gardens.

Do not miss a visit to this interesting Museum. It highlights the pacific area with particular reference to Fiji. The current exhibit "Voyages" stories of an Ocean people is a must see. Set in the Botanic gardens with a cafe makes for a relaxing visit.

Getting confused with what is available whilst visiting Vita Levu....would like to do a tour to see as much as we can on the day whilst in port, definitely do not want to waste time seeing lagoons and waterfalls. Someone suggested we hire a taxi and haggle over price and maybe miss out on info or perhaps just do the self guided walk around town? We are due there on 29th April.

How far is it from the cruise ship port in Fiji to the museum? Wondering whether to walk or take a taxi. If the latter, what is a fair price to pay?
Geschreven op 10 februari 2018
You most certainly can walk about 10 mn, it’s right across the Grand Pacific but a cab should take you there for less than 10 $

Hello. My daughter would like to find out more about Fijian art (particularly tapa-based) but we are only in Suva for one day (Monday 2 January) as we will be on a cruise. I wanted to make sure the museum is open and was wondering if there is a guide who could give her some information about your displays? Thank you.

The best is a metered taxi.
Cafeteria on site!

Is the Fiji Museum open on Sundays? Lonely planet says it's only open M-F. Please advise as soon as possible. No website for Fiji Museum.

I'm sorry I don't know the opening days or times but the Holiday Inn Hotel in Fiji Suva is not very far from the museum. If there is a way you can contact them? Im sure they would know. Sorry thats all I can suggest
