Grand et beau musée axé sur le peuple Maya avec des mises en scènes de la vie des anciens Mayas. Belle collection de sculptures, de jade et de poteries. Le circuit est assez vite fait car l'exposition est assez redondante. A voir pour tuer le temps.

Este es un excelente museo Si se quiere conocer un poco sobre la arqueologÃa Es sobre las etnias que habitaban en Guatemala hay piezas de todo el paÃs de todas las ruinas mayas que se han encontrado, por lo cual es importante su visita antes de ir a estos sitios ya que se pueden encontrar cosas que hoy por hoy en el sitio no se van a encontrar.

Una colección completÃsima, muy bien exhibida de los diversos periodos mayas, más trajes. Tuve solo 1.30 hs. Merita más tiempo.

We were not expecting to spend as much time as we did here. The Mayan estelas are particularly striking. There were a number of small statuettes from both the classic and post-classic periods that were well displayed. Some sections of the museum did not have descriptions in English which was a little frustrating.

The museum is organized into pre classic, classic and post classic exhibits of the Mayan civilizations. It is a good way to get background before going to the actual ruins.

Ce musée archéologique et ethnographique nous plonge dans la période Mayas avec de nombreuses sculptures, masques et stèles. Une des pièces exceptionnelles est le superbe trône de Piedras Negras. Voir également la maquette de Tikal.

My adult daughter and I enjoyed our visit to the National Archaeology Museum. We spent about 90 minutes and were able to see the entire museum. We went at opening so we had time to see the many items. On our way out, we saw large groups entering and were happy we came at the open.

Although interesting, it looks like this is more for field trips for children than for actual history buffs. The anthropology museum in Mexico City is way better.

We enjoyed the museum. The displays start in the earliest pre Mayan period and went through the Spanish arrival. There was lots of pottery and quite a few very large stellae. More than 1/2 the display did have sign in English and Spanish. The building is pretty also.

Before touring the archeological Mayan sites in Guatemala, this is one of the 3 museums in Guatemala City which is worth a visit. Only 'disappointment' in this museum is that there are hardly any explanations in the English language apart from the Spanish.

How much is the entry fee and how long should one expect to be there?

If I remember correctly, the entry fee for a foreigner is 60 Q. The museum isn't a very large one, I think I spent around 40 minutes, maybe more.

Sorry. It's been a long time since I was in Guatemala, and at the museum. But it has a lot of significant statuary from all over the country. Well worth the time to see it.

Actualmente el museo no cuenta con lockers para guardar equipaje, pero en taquilla ofrecemos el servicio de manera gratuita. Esperamos que disfrute su visita.

We would like to take a taxi to visit the museum. Getting there from Hilton Gardens wil not be a problem. What about a taxi back to the hotel how can that be arranged?
