Wow what an incredible place.
We booked a tour guide by email as we didn't want to risk noone being available as this was so worth it. Our guide was so knowledgeable and friendly. Shared lots of his knowledge about the plants and the Mayan culture.
Take plenty of water as it hot and humid- we refilled our bottles when we finished the guided walk as you can then use the map and guide book to continue walking round. There is so much to see and such great information in the guide book.
We sat in the hide for a while and watched the wildlife which gave us a chance to cool down as well as seeing the birds - woodpeckers, hummingbirds and much more. Next time we will bring our wildlife identifier book!
An absolutely brilliant way to spend a morning. You need to come here to learn about Belize, Maya culture, plants and environmental efforts.

Amazing. Even in tbe rain tbeguide was entertaining an informative. We had a young boy of 8 years and the guide made the forest come alive. My only regret is that we didnt spend more time.

A small group of us visited the gardens on a Sunday. The only guides available were Maggie and Daisy who were fantastic. I’m attaching photos of the guides so you know which ones I’m talking about. They made sure we saw everything, didn’t rush us and we never had to use our map to figure out where we were because they lead us around the loop at a perfect pace.
The gardens are so beautiful and well maintained and good signage is everywhere. It’s a peaceful, beautiful and educational place to spend the day. The drive out is pretty also and the road is way better than it used to be - at least in this dry season!

While staying at Table Rock Jungle Lodge, I had the pleasure of visiting the Belize Botanic Gardens. Because I was visiting on a Sunday, I was having difficulty securing transportation to and from the Gardens. (I was by myself, so I didn’t feel comfortable paddling up the Macal River from Table Rock to the Gardens but I would recommend doing this.) I met Hilda, a Botanic Gardens employee at the San Ignacio Market. She gave me a different telephone number to reach the Botanic Gardens. When I called, Sam answered and kindly agreed to pick me up Sunday morning at 9am. I got to spend the entire day at the Botanic Gardens which included an informative tour of the Gardens given by Harry. In addition, I did the hiking trails and met the two dogs and the horse named Amazing Grace. After a full day, Sam drove me back to Table Rock when the Gardens closed at 4pm. The Botanic Gardens is obviously a passion and labour of love for the people who own and work there. I had no problem spending the entire day; there is plenty to see, learn and do. Thank you for being so kind to me and sharing your beautiful Botanic Gardens with me!

This is a lovely place where you can lose yourself in the sheer beauty of nature. The gardens are laid out according to terrain (savannah, woodland) or interest (medicine garden walk) and you can be scholarly, or not.I am especially interested in the extensive knowledge of herbs and plants for medicine and food left by ancient Maya, so it was great fun to explore these.
A recent storm made the orchid house unstable, so the orchids have been moved to another location. We did see the national pride and joy, the black orchid, in bloom. It's marvelous to see what is only know in the midwest US as a houseplant - the sansevieria - marching in spiky rows across the meadow, like the green spine of a buried dragon.
The knowledgeable young man at the office explained that they do not use pesticides. The fertilizer is provided by a resident horse (whom we saw munching browsing under the trees. Birds seem quite happy about the fruit offerings, particularly some toucans we saw going after "rose apples".
In short, make a visit here. it's inspiring.

To start with an aside, this is a great place for birding, especially when the fruit trees are laden. It's 45 beautiful acres including a great array of tropical plants in a very natural environment. You can take a guided tour or do a self-guided tour, as my wife and I did using the excellent map and explanatory materials provided. Of all the things we did in our four days in the San Ignacio area, this is the one that we would be certain to repeat if we come back.

This is a great place to see many of the plants of Belize and to see what is possible to accomplish with dedication and hard work. Rudy, who was our guide, is very knowledgeable about plants and history. He and the sight are very instrumental in the support and education of conservation priorities in Belize. It is a sight well worth a visit

We stopped here partly because it was close to the Lodge at Chaa Creek where we were staying. The gardens are well marked and are fairly large. They give you a map and a booklet with lots of information about the various plants. It’s very informative but I was a little disappointed that there were few flowers or flowering plants.
It’s definitely worth a visit if you are nearby.

It was a rainy day and we were staying at Sweet Songs resort, the hotel adjacent to the Gardens. We had a lovely visit and learned a lot with the information sheet.

This place is well worth the drive, it's very reasonably priced and these guys really know their stuff, we got to taste and smell lots of neat plants not to mention rare bird sightings and a neat Myan hut.

Hi, my husband is a collector of orchids and other tropical plants. We will be in Ambergris Cay in July for a fishing trip but have a few days for sightseeing. We'd like to hire a private guide to possibly go visit the botanical gardens some plant nurseries and tropical forest. Any recommendations for making this happen?

Hi, my husband and I have a private Bioreserve including a collection of native orchids in the Cayo district. He was a professor in the US and has a PhD. in Biology and Ecology, before permanently moving to Belize. He would be your guide.
