Such an amazing place. An unreal vibe. So much energy and beauty. The history of the temple could be felt in every pillar.

WE ARE ARDENT DEVOTEES OF LORD ARUNACHALESWARAR AND UNNAMALI AMMAN AND SRI RAMANA MAHARSHI. WE HAVE BEEN VISITING THRICE A YEAR FOR THE LAST 12 YEARS. MY WIFE FELT EXTREME GIDDINESS AND SWEATING ON OUR WAY TO LORD'S DARSHAN ON THE RAMP AND NO TEMPLE STAFF IS SEEN NEAR ANYWHERE.
THIS IS THE ONLY MINUS POINT IN THE ARUNACHALA TEMPLE IS THAT THERE WILL BE NO ASSISTANCE ALL ALONG EVEN IF THERE WILL BE ANY PILGRIM REQUIRE ANY HELP OR SUPPORT. NO TEMPLE STAFF WILL BE SEEN ANYWHERE INSIDE THE TEMPLE.
THIS IS TO BE REMEDIED AND PILGRIMS SHOULD BE GIVEN SOME ASSISTANCE ON THEIR WAY TO DARSHAN IN TIMES OF HEAVY CROWDS.

Tiruvannamalai has changed dramatically. There is little that is pleasant, but we experienced the worst when we visited the (formerly) fantastic Arunachaleshwara Temple - the heart of the city.
This was once a haven of peace. You walked through a large courtyard, sat down, breathed in the atmosphere of an extraordinary place and visited the individual sacred objects of this ambience, in which you could easily find places for contemplation, for 'looking within'.
Today, this huge courtyard is no longer freely accessible. Because of the large number of people, an almost unmanageable number of pipe structures are stored here, which can be coupled together to form a cage-like, corridor-shaped structure. They are very similar to metal structures that you find in slaughterhouses. There, the cattle are driven in at one end and driven to the slaughterhouse by the servants.
Here in the courtyard of the temple, these columns lead over numerous twists and turns to the walls of the Ardhamandapa, where the Garbhagriha is located. Not very friendly-looking guards made sure that no one escaped and took a shortcut.
Our visit to the temple was only brief and we did not make it to the Garbhagriha.
What we experienced here had nothing to do with faith, religiosity or community spirit. It was all slapstick and noise.

When we were here for the first time in 1993 with our family, we were intoxicated by the harmony of this city. Mountains, temples, city, people. Everything lay closely intertwined before the visitor as a brilliant symbiosis of culture and nature when he took the walk up the mountain behind the temple.
In this place, the hiker experiences a different atmosphere today: people and vehicles have become more numerous and the noise of the city now penetrates up to the heights.
Down in the city it has become more cramped. A 'walk' here has the character of an obstacle course. It leads past parked and moving cars/motorcycles/tuc-tucs, hurrying people and sales tables standing around.
But this change is most unpleasantly evident in the magnificent temple, which was once a haven of peace. You walked through a large courtyard, sat down, breathed in the atmosphere of an extraordinary place and visited the individual sacred objects of this ambience, in which you could easily find places for contemplation, for 'going within'. Today, this huge courtyard is no longer freely accessible. Because of the large number of people, there is an almost unmanageable chain of metal, cage-like objects, which are connected one after the other and which also resemble the metal structures that you find in slaughterhouses, where the cattle are driven in and driven to the slaughterhouse.
Here in the courtyard of the temple, these columns lead over numerous twists and turns to the walls of the Ardhamandapa, where the Garbhagriha is located. Security personnel make sure that no one breaks out and takes a shortcut.
Our visit to the temple was only brief and we did not make it to the Garbhagriha.
However, we found the hiking trail leading uphill in Tiruvannamalai very enjoyable. It has been renovated and you can take a nice loop back down to the Ramana Ashram. (Guru 3er Beatles; Mike Love and Donovan)
On the way, you will find a place in the Skanda Ashram where meditation is possible. Tomb of the Maharishi.
We can also rate Tiruvannamalai positively for its restaurants and hotels. Both are financially sound. There are many inexpensive restaurants and hotels. We had good experiences with Namma Rama Krishna (R) and Sarvesha Palace (H).

A huge temple with excellent architecture. This is our second visit and first one post covid.. A beautiful 4 hr drive from Bangalore. 4 lane road till Krishnagiri and then 2 lane roads. Few construction works are going on. But the roads r much better than pre covid.
The temple has 4 gopurams. We did 2 visits on Sat and Sun. One day we went via east entrance (Rajagopuram) and west (pe gopuram) on the next..
Since it's a weekend, it was too crowded. 1.5+ hrs waiting even for special darshan queue.
Had a satisfying darshan.
Try to visit on a weekday for a crowdless darshan.

Came for the full moon walk
It’s very very busy but it’s worth spending a few days to see all the local pilgrims and sadhus . Hard to get rooms do book in advance. Easy walk
All paved …. More like a bazaar than a holy walk to me

Hi Everyone,
I want to know whether the temple currently open for Devotees or not.
In Google maps it’s showing temple was closed temporarily.
Please let me know your answers and if possible temple timings as well for Dharshanam.
Thanks,
Sasi Lanka
