The boat we rented, Elegance, was comfortable and well-equipped. All six bikes were in excellent working order. Staff, especially Bieke, were helpful and informative. All advice was correct. one minor issue was resolved immediately. We toured several canals and enjoyed two wonderful weeks. We would highly recommend this base. Mr Thibeault provided instruction on all features and controls of the boat.

Wonderful experience. Base personal were helpful every step. Called us in US with updates on drought issues affecting water levels on our route. Beike provided everyone with maps and travel advice which was all spot-on. Mr Thibeault reveiewed the boat with us and provided enough training in one hour, that we could do everything we wanted. We had a microwave latch issue and they replaced it with a brand new one within 15 minutes. We rented 6 bikes and they were all in perfect order. We could not have asked for more. It was a spectacular two weeks in Nieuwpoort, Dikksmuide, Ypres, Bruges, Gent and Brussels. All maps needed were provided in a binder with lockkeeper and swing bridge operators’ phone numbers.

Nice boats, very sympathetic and helpful people at Leboat. Tips: note that in those canals you are not allowed to moore everywhere like in France. Also think your traject Well as the locks in Nieuport have very specific schedules due to the see level.

We traveled with 4 boater friends from California for Le Boat, Niewpoort, Belgium. When we arrived, we were informed that our boat (3 cabin, 3 en-suite toilet, Vision 3, very new, 49-foot boat) was not available because of a repair from the prior week. They did not inform us in advance of the change, even though we had mobile phones and email. When we arrived, had no choice but to accept a 17-year-old, very slow (4 knots), 4-cabin, 2-toilet, beat-up, 42-footer, AT THE FULL RETAIL PRICE for the old boat that is not even listed on their website any longer. The base was very unapologetic, and referred to their contract about the substitution. After contacting the company via Facebook message, we did email battle back and forth trying to get some sort of discount for our disappointment. They refused. Additionally, the shift / throttle linkage broke after 4 excruciatingly slow days (you could walk as fast), and they had to repair in Bruge. Upon our return and checkout, we were received last, delaying our departure, which we sensed was in retaliation for our complaints. At no point was the company proactive about retaining our business or making us happy. All we heard were excuses and reasons and contract-talk. We even cut out 1 destination because the boat was so slow. We thought at least we would receive a discounted price on the old boat - not be charged full retail. Will not repeat with Le Boat. They really don't care about the customer.

Dear RickAMD
We appreciate you sharing your comments with us and offer our apologies for your disappointment regarding the change of boat. Unfortunately, the Vision boat you had booked was unavailable due to operational constraints and the only available alternative, taking into account the high season and size of your party, was a Classique boat. Although a very reliable and fully functional boat, the Classique is indeed of a lesser category than our Vision range boats and I understand that the price difference between the two boats was refunded to you at the start of your cruise. I would also like to confirm that our Classique boats are still part of our fleet and featured in our brochure and on our website.
With regards to the speed of the boat, 4 knots (7km/h) is the speed at which boats are allowed to cruise on most inland waterways. Generally, we ask our customers to respect the ‘No Wake’ rule which means that a boat must travel slow enough that it doesn’t produce a swell large enough to threaten others in the area, including other boaters, swimmers, fishermen, etc.
Thank you once again for being so accommodating regarding the change to your cruise. It is our desire to restore your faith in Le Boat and we would welcome the opportunity to have you back to demonstrate an improved experience to you and your party.
Best regards

The easiest way to get to the le boat dock is to get a taxi. Our driver knew exactly where it was, and the trip from the train station in Oostende to le boat cost about 60 Euros. Easier than the tram if you're taking a lot of luggage and/or splitting the cab with others.
The boating lesson they gave us covered all the stuff we needed to know and it took about two hours from when the taxi dropped us off to when we were on the canal, boating toward Oudenburg. We opted for early check-in and late return and were really glad we did because canal bridges, locks, and other boat traffic make travel times a little unpredictable.
We boated from Nieuwpoort to Oudenburg (1 night), to Bruges (2 nights), and to Gent (2 nights), back to Bruges (1 night), and to Oudenburg (1 night), then back to le boat the next day. We chose this itinerary so that we'd get to see a few places and make sure we got the boat back in time.
Oudenburg has a small dock with free water and electricity hookup. There is a small town if you cross the street and head upstream, following a park - you'll see a sheep flock and farm on the left along the way. The town has a huge grocery store about 1 k away from the dock, as well as small shops (nice fish shop!) and an amazing, fine-dining restaurant (La Maison de Terroir) that is quite a long walk.
A couple of hours, a few bridges and a lock and we were in Bruges. We stayed at the Coupure marina in the middle of town and it was very peaceful and close to everything. Electricity is 1 Euro for a couple of hours (I think) and water is 1 Euro per 100 litres. The harbourmaster, Eddy, was super friendly. Talk to Eddy about what time you should leave. He'll know when bridges start to let boat traffic through and stuff so that you don't waste a lot of time.
A few hours from Bruges and you're in Gent. We stayed at the Leie marina in the middle of town and there was construction going on right across the canal from us. A little noisy, but, again, very close to a shop with the best bread I've ever had in my life (Le Pain de Sebastien), grocery stores, coffee shops - even one called Wasbar where you can do laundry in a cafe. I liked exiting the marina, turning left (pass an open-air urinal), immediately cross a bridge, then an immediate left across another. Up one street and you're on a street with a tram line (NederKouter). That street probably has most anything you'd need (including that bread shop and the Wasbar), plus following it to the left gets you right to the center of town too. It's easy because you just follow the tram tracks (Line 1).
We rented a Caprice and some of the following might be specific to that boat. You'll probably use more water than you think, so fill up a couple of times. Use your electricity strategically so you don't waste time. Keep all your 1 Euro coins for electricity and water coin-operated thingies. If you're average height, watch your head on le boat. I whacked mine plenty of times coming out of the bathroom and I'm not particularly tall, but I'm also pretty uncoordinated... Don't expect everything to be in new condition; our horn was broken, as was the water gauge. The BBQ is hard to light and keep lit sometimes because there is often wind. The fridge door would often not close properly unless we gave it a good push.
Also, once you phone the number to open the first bridge, during your first day of boating the guy will watch for you coming toward bridges (cameras) and open them automatically.
Overall, I highly recommend le boat.
