I planned my short vacation at a hotel in Limone Sul Garda, driven by curiosity and passion to walk the cycle path on Lake Garda; I was able in the past to walk some of the best cycle paths in Europe: Armsterdam and South Holland; Berlin, Postdam and surroundings; Vienna and surroundings. Perhaps I should have paid more attention to what is described on the site: " A unique walk of its kind, there is no other place like it in Europe, walking or cycling along the Limone del Garda footbridge is an experience not to be missed, a MUST HAVE! " - "A very short cantilevered cycle path on the lake unique of its kind, a taste waiting for the complete Garda cycle path." Actually everything was a heavy disappointment; starting from Limone sul Garda, first you had to walk across the country - it is forbidden to cross the country by bike even for the first flat stretch where there is ample parking but there was no path reserved for cyclists. in practice either you are warned to get off even if you keep walking pace and maximum attention or .. nothing you do the whole square bike in hand (about 1.5 km). The historic center of the country obviously imposes bikes in hand because the "cycle path" is very narrow and you cross the main characterized of the country full of shops and tourists on foot - it is common sense of cyclists - often some cross this way by bike even at not moderate speed. finally crossed the historic center of the country starts a mixed pedestrian / driveway reserved for residents; very narrow, curves and downs that having to be traveled at low speed to avoid accidents with cars / people, require a considerable effort, especially for those who are still teenagers and for those who do not have sufficient training, despite renting MTB. after about 5/6 km, finally take the real cycle path, the one cantilevered on the lake. very suggestive; but after 4.5 km there is an unexpected stop: the cycle ends at the border between the Lombardy / Trentino regions. end of fun. Here there is a memorial plaque to those who died of accidents at work during the construction of the existing Gardesana Occidentale road - ed. a hecatomb even of several minors - ; proceeding further to reach Riva del Garda is a real risk: the carriageway of the Gardesana Occidentale state road is narrow, there are some tunnels that are in any case traveled WITHOUT LIGHTS by some "professional" cyclists with obvious accident risks. Too bad because the extension of the cycle path in the Trentino region (I'm very sorry to point this out because I have, despite everything, great esteem and respect in that region) should have been completed to date 180 days "consecutive" from 07/12/2023; then by 04/06/2024; the term "consecutive" means including Saturday and Sunday, is not indicated "natural"; if it had been indicated "180 working days" should have excluded holidays from the count; in this case adding 2 days more to 26 weeks (180 days / 7 = 26 ) and then another 51 days, the final date could be postponed to 25/07/2024. However at the date of my visit (29/08/2024) the works in Trentino were barely sketched. shame I can not attach other photos of the state of the works; I do not have any available. In any case, I hope to be able to return to the place, perhaps with a little more training and less expectations, when the Trentina cycle path is completed, until (I hope) Riva del Garda.

Went this morning to walk the cycle path on Garda but the route should be better explained. It was me, my husband and my 1-year-old in the car seat. We asked for information on arrival and were only explained where to start without any more indication. Not being experienced cyclists and wanting to ride with the family we had to go back. The first section was really too tiring full of climbs. We've gone back. The view is definitely worth it but for those thinking of taking a family trip it should be warned that it is not a relaxing ride at least for the first stretch.

Impossible to take a bad photo in limone, every view is special and postcard perfect.
Alexander hotel is perfect location, minutes from the beach and town.

I took it yesterday with a friend and my 6-month-old baby in a stroller.
We left the car at the multi-storey car park at the entrance of the village, which is the last place where you can secure a parking space, at an affordable price (from 13:30 to 17:30 are about 7€). To take the cycle path you have to cross Limone (without hurry because it is really full of tourists and as they say packed) in a walk of about 40 minutes; with the stroller you have to consider that it is a continuous climb down so rather difficult for those who are not used to walking or those who suffer from the beating sun (during the walk there are still some fountains, excellent for cooling off and some spots in the shade if you want to stop for a moment). Going back to the side of the road, take the cycle path, at the beginning of which there are some points to sit and free toilets quite clean and usable; the walkway is completely exposed to the sun and can be walked in about 30 minutes until it ends on the border between Brescia and Trento, where there is the monument for the fallen at work during construction and the Gardesana road. The return, as always, always seems faster than the outbound!
Some specifications:
- absolutely important: bring water, hat and sprinkle well with sunscreen!!!
- at the beginning of the walkway there is a street vendor of soft drinks and sandwiches;
- on the walkway there are no benches for parking;
- it is advisable to leave the car at the parking lot and pass through Limone as we did, because the roadside path is absolutely dangerous!
A little fatigue for the heat and the sun, overcooked and toasted on the return, but all in all pleasant!

Total disappointment. To get there from the town it is well over 3 km often uphill. Then you are almost always at the level of the state road, only 8-900 meters are detached from the road and "overhanging". Zero shade, zero refreshment points, it's only good if done by bike, on foot it's absurd!

Some clarifications: Apart from a short stretch, the track is located next to the state road, this means breathing in the smog of the cars passing a few meters away, while you are taking a walk that you think is in the middle of nature... the glimpses of the lake are truly beautiful, assuming that you, a pedestrian, manage to enjoy them, as the bikes whiz by at full speed just a few centimeters from you. The arrival is in the middle of nowhere, or rather on the main road, without even the possibility of resting for a moment before to face the return journey, nor to drink or eat even just a sandwich..

The visit was spectacular, we took many photos, there are many bridges overlooking the lake and nearby there is a 2-hour free car park and then there was a small road that leads to Limone surrounded by greenery between olive trees and the lake until you reach the beautiful historic center to visit. Nearby you can take the boat for an excursion, I recommend it, it is truly a unique place.

We got up before sunrise to walk the full length of this brilliant lake-side path. It provides panoramic views along its entire length, in both directions. We wanted to walk it without the crowds of people that throng along its surface during the day. The views are simply the best you’ll find anywhere in the northern lake area.

A beautiful path. Clean and well maintained with spectacular views over the lake. We rode along by bike.
A 50/50 mix of cyclists and pedestrians. It is just about wide enough to pass others comfortably but occasionally need to stop in places if busy/where people are taking photos. Quite peaceful once on the lakeside path.
Only reason for 4 not 5 stars is the challenging paths from Limone Sul Garda centre to this pretty lakeside path. This wasn’t something we were aware of in advance. We also hadn’t been given helmets with bike hire so were quite cautious. It is quite a distance of steep uphill and downhill paths (maybe a couple of kilometres) to get to the scenic cliff paths pictured.
The only way to access the bike trail is to pass through the busy Limone lakefront. Bikes cannot be ridden here so must be pushed which can be a challenge on the crowded streets.

Non è stata allungata. Di buon mattino ho parcheggiato sulle vicinanze del sentiero del Ponale (gratuito). Da lì ho iniziato a pedalare in direzione Limone dove ho potuto percorrere la bellissima pista. Breve ma intensa e soprattutto emozionante.

Il tratto di ciclabile più bello, quello a strapiombo sul lago, partendo da Capo Reamol ( dove c'è un hotel) è quello che dall'hotel va verso nord cioè verso Riva o quello che va verso sud, cioè verso Limone? Grazie
