I thought that the high ratings for this place would indicate a good location to visit. It really is only worth visiting if you have small children. As a pair of adults, we were overwhelmed by other people’s little kids and left after an hour or so. It wasn’t bad but it was not for us and I didn’t really realise that from other reviews.
It’s only £5 to get in which is fair, but be aware that they don’t have many animals. The lions were out but no sign of the bears, bobcat or otters. The skunks and wallabies were cute. The paths were really busy and there was no map so we just followed the general flow around. The tropical house was especially hard work as the narrow gantries were completely congested with buggies and we couldn’t get past but you can at least see the various crocodiles & alligators etc well.
All in all, not bad but the playground would make it better and I am sure that small kids would have a fabulous time. We won’t ever need a repeat visit, even though the farm shop was lovely. But interesting that they do allow dogs, which is good.

Very impressed with our recent visit here with my husband and nearly 1 year old. We went to the cafe for lunch and was impressed with the menu (although wish the baguettes came warm but that is just personal preference) and then went around the farm. Can’t believe I have lived within 20 minutes away from here for 6 years and had no idea it was so close. Lions less than 6ft from me, puma, sloth bear, goats, raccoon dogs, birds, alligators and crocodiles. So so impressed. Yes the enclosures are smaller than you would get in a larger zoo but it was clear the animals are well looked after and the staff really care about them all. We couldn’t believe how great value for money it was as well! Very impressed and will definitely be back very soon!

Johnson’s zoo is a great family day out.
There are a range of animals from Lions to Capybaras to Puma and otters… all animals look well kept and happy.
There is a lovely woodland walk/trail and a park. Do recommend wellingtons as can be muddy but this is all part of the exploration.
Today, we visited to complete an “animal experience”. It was outstanding! Our zoo keeper/guide was attentive and patient- he was very knowledgeable and shared lots of information- especially in a way which was accessible for my 7 year old. The experience did not feel rushed at all and was thoroughly enjoyable!
My son has come away very happy and has marked the time as infinite/10.
The general entry fee is very very reasonable!

I am a disabled person and my partner is my carer. I came along with a digital copy of my PIP disability letter, along with my disabled parking badge. Upon entering we were flat out refused a carers ticket by the lady who served us. She looked at the letter, looked me up and down and said 'no, no I wont give you a free carers pass.' She completely discriminated against me because I did not look visibly disabled, i.e. in a wheelchair. It is absolutely disgusting that I was so brazenly discriminated against, even though I came with the proof of my disability. I came with the 2 types of proof requested by every kind of zoo/theatre etc to enable a free carers ticket. But disregarding the carers ticket, the way she blatantly disregarded my disability and her discrimination and treatment of me was OUT OF ORDER! Who is she to say whether I am disabled or not, your staff need training in discrimination and disability and discrimination laws!
We visited the zoo at £14 - 2 adults 2x £5, one child £4, alongside the circus at £25.50 - £8.50 per ticket - all with no carers ticket. We would have gone elsewhere if we had known.
Alongside being discriminated against I was completely appalled by the treatment of the animals at your park!
First off outside you had a pan half a metre by a metre holding around 10 baby ostrich, it started pouring it down very heavily, As everyone ran to the crocodile area they were left outside with no shelter whilst being pelted with extraordinarily heavy rain - enough that within 60 seconds we were drenched through 3 layers of clothes. The poor things were huddled together for protection against the raging storm. They are usually with their mother who protects them with her wings. THEY HAD ZERO SHELTER, huddled together shaking! I kept looking outside, over 35 minutes went by and they still were not helped by staff. As we left the crocodile area looking over I saw staff came out with an umbrella, too late as the storm had passed and the sun was shining!
Secondly almost all outdoor animal enclosures the water bowls were completely empty, and had mould in them! Those poor animals, it is disgusting, on such a hot summers day too!
Third the water in the crocodile/alligator area is disgusting. The mould/moss is out of control and hadn't been cleaned in a very long time - based on the green fungi on the water and the slick mould around the edge of the water on the rocks. Their water is supposed to be freshwater and flowing to avoid bad bacteria.
On top of everything else the enclosures of animals are incredibly small. For example 5 rabbits had half the size of one of the large cats, floor space wise. Why on earth is that considered acceptable!? The spaces were not sufficient to the animals in each area.
The park is bordering on ANIMAL CRUELTY, the care of the animals should be paramount.
I emailed many email addresses on their website to discuss these concerns but each and every department ignored my contact.

This is a lovely small zoo, with some nice collecitons. It is good for children to play. A bit crowded but generally it was OK.

What a wonderful place to visit, the animals were amazing and all the enclosures were really thought out. The tropical house with all the crocodiles and alligators was just wonderful to see and experience.
The cutest for us were the raccoon dogs.
The children had a great time walking around the woods and playing on the playground.
We had bbq food which was soo reasonably priced just like the price to enter the zoo.
Honestly if you haven’t been you don’t know what you’re missing!! Our family throughly enjoyed the day.
Thank you for making it so affordable for families 🙂 this makes it especially unique.

Lovely day out for our first visit. Got there at opening on a hot Sunday and glad we did. Beat the queue and good parking. Got to see some of the animals before they sought refuge from the sun. Good selection and seem well cared for. Paid £14 entry for a family of 3 and understood that you can't bring in your own food. Long queues in the cafe but managed to get tables. The deli had some lovely pasties/pastries and a new grab and go section so we got food from here and sat outside. We also had ice cream from the shack which was amazing whippy. Lots of choice for eating, in addition to the cafe, steakhouse and deli, you could also buy food at the bbq or ice cream hut. We stayed about 4 hours.

Very unexpected gem. Small but lovely day out, can tell the animals there are well taken care by the keepers. Lovely short walk, there’s a playground area, as well as different animal areas. It’s not very big but nice trip out.

Hello were travelling from Bedford. Is this worth a trip? Can you take a picnic in? All reviews I've read are about a good farm shop. Do you get around the farm or zoo quickly? Are there many animals? I know people have said it's cheap to get in but is it small and then a park area to play?? Travelling from Bedford I don't want to travel and then it be over in 1hr to see animals then just be placed to a expensive restaurant or cafe if they have one? To just play in a park really in the end! As Woburn zoo is just near us and they have a offer on at the moment but coming for a adult family member birthday but I'm hoping it's not a long journey and a early start to be done in a hour

Just checking there are no sheep here? I'm pregnant and avoiding farms with sheep due to toxoplasmosis risk! Many thanks
