All I can say is WOW!! Peter was the most amazing guide taking us to places that we had no clue existed. We had the luck of having Peter for not only the countryside tour but took us post-cruise to parts of Rotterdam and The Hague as only a native could do. His knowledge is unsurpassed by any guide we have experience. He was even kind enough to help us to the airport upon our return home. Do not hesitate booking this gem!

It was our first time EVER in Amsterdam, and we wanted to learn EVERYTHING that we could in a single day.
We were so fortunate to have discovered Peter Dohmen and Personal Amsterdam Tours! What we received was not just a tour, but a CUSTOMIZED SHARED AMSTERDAM EXPERIENCE!
The two of us joined Peter in a privately guided tour that took us all over North, South, East and West Amsterdam.
We originally scheduled a 6 hour tour -- but ultimately spent over 8 hours together with Peter --- and 29,000 steps -- just because we didn't want our day to end!
Our conversation and walking path flowed easily and casually from region to region, topic to topic, and canal to canal.
Peter has an incredible knowledge of All Things Amsterdam, and could have easily taken us on a canned or pre-planned tour. But he didn't.
Instead, he listened carefully throughout all of our conversations, and truly "customized" a day for us, spontaneously heading down less-travelled streets away from tourist areas to help us discover unique local EXPERIENCES such as: centuries old drinking establishments where we slurped fennel liqueurs, purveyors of decadent whipped-cream-laden pies and caramel-filled cookies, unique Dutch snacks like bitterballs (great taste, bad name), local breweries where we taste-tested Dutch craft beers, and so much more.
Sure -- we definitely learned about Dutch history, famous landmarks, WW2 remembrances and monuments, classic and contemporary art and art history, and pop culture. Pragmatically, we learned to navigate the city, understand the city's geography, use the tram system, and avoid death by speeding E-Bike. We also learned how some of Amsterdam's more infamous business trades try to uncomfortably co-exist today alongside other more legitimate but less tolerant businesses
All in all, we didn't feel like we were just on a professionally guided tour.
We felt like we were visiting one of our best friends who just so happened to live in Amsterdam and knew more than anyone else about the city.
Our memories of yesterday will last a lifetime, and I plan to stay in touch with Peter not just as friends, but potentially as international BITTERBALL exporters once the marketing challenge has been solved.

My Mother and I stayed in Amsterdam in May 2023 and she wanted to get a private guide for part of our trip, thank goodness we found Peter!!! He was the perfect tour guide! What I loved about having Peter with us the most was his sense of spontaneity. He helped us stick to all the things we wanted to see, but he completely left room for fun, random things to happen!
Peter is extremely knowledgeable about everything Amsterdam, all the ins and outs. But he is also great if you want to hop over to another country or day a trip in the Netherlands. We did a day trip to Belgium while in Amsterdam and had the BEST day! We went to Ghent and Bruges. He fit in everything we wanted to see, but the most fun part was on the way back to Amsterdam, we had to use the restroom 🚻 on our drive back but we were in the middle of nowhere.....well that was no problem for Peter......he found the neatest restaurant and bar, a real local place, so we stopped and had a beer, chatted, while we had our break. It was the best way to end out day!
We also did a day trip to the Keukenhof gardens, windmills and quaint towns in the countryside.
Peter also has fantastic drivers, Mali was our driver and Peter had a long standing relationship with him so everything ran so smooth.
All in all I would say if you want to do your trip the right way......hire Peter! He can do anything you need! Also, he can get you into places if the tickets are sold out! Very handy! Peter is also an excellent photographer, so if you want to get all your Instagram worthy photos in....that's another reason to hire him!

To start, Peter is a great person and has such a great personality. My best friend and I had planned our Europe trip and we were planning to stop in Amsterdam for 3 days! Not a lot of time you would think to see everything. But I was pleasantly surprised after meeting Peter.
My mom had previously met Peter and toured with him a few years ago. However, with Peter being so genuine they have stayed in touch and my mom contacted him to see if my friend and I could tour with him for a day!
Peter being his kind self over did himself and was with us from the time we arrived to putting us on a train for our next stop. Without Peter, I do not think we would be able to see everything and experience all of the main spots in Amsterdam (Last minute Anne Frank tickets, bike tour, local food stops, etc)! I am so happy to have met him, and I am for sure coming back to Amsterdam to tour with him again and just to grab a drink with him too!

Peter is an excellent personal guide. I would give more than 5 stars if I could! He is a great communicator, trustworthy and reliable.
He showed us around Amsterdam and took us to different venues to experience the food, culture, and architecture. This personal tour was a wonderful choice!

Peter is an excellent tour guide and an even better human being! He is committed to making sure you have a terrific time and an enjoyable experience. In addition, he took one of my friends back to the hotel who was tired from our travels and made sure he got back to the hotel safely. Our private tour with Peter was one of the highlights from our visit to Amsterdam! If you are presently deciding on which personalized and private tour to take, then, look no further than a private tour with this company. Private Day Tours by Steven Attersol
We cannot say enough about Steven Attersol's private day tour. From the time we met in the morning until we ended the tour to The Hague and the Mauritshuis Gallery, the time was filled with lessons in Amsterdam/Holland/The Netherlands history, folklore, culture and art and government and governance. Not only did we see Delft --home of Vermeer--but came to know his contemporary Fabritius and his "The Goldfinch." We learned artists' backgrounds and came to appreciate better how they contributed to art itself. Steve, the best tour and guide we've had in a long time, also had a wonderful sense of humor. When you meet Steve, be sure to ask him about the current Dutch King. You will enjoy the day!

We were blessed to have been able to spend time in Berlin, parts of western Germany, and then Amsterdam. The highlight of our trip was being able to spend six hours on a guided tour of the city with Peter.
The first thing I noticed as a difference were the huge tour groups around us. They were probably less costly per person, but they were part of even larger groups that caused queues to grow for entrance into certain areas as well as an inability to actually go see other areas because of a large tour group. You'll pay more for the personal attention, but what you get can't be beat.
We went to restaurants, bars and a variety of other places that were not "tourist traps" and were the location of some of the best of Amsterdam when it comes to food, drinks, and history. We were able to cover many parts of the city that there is no way we would have EVER found on our own nor do we believe we would have seen with a larger tour group.
I'll add photos to this review to demonstrate several things that we were able to see. Peter was amazing all the way - special recognition to him for offering to take many pictures of us, for offering great options for snacks and lunch, and just for being a powerhouse of knowledge of all things Amsterdam.
Highly, highly recommend that you reach out to Peter for your next tour in Amsterdam. Thank you so much!

We had one free day in Amsterdam after disembarking from a Viking River cruise and wanted to see as as much as possible. We gave Peter a long list of places we wanted to see, including a local lunch and snacks. I was so pleased that Peter responded to my e-mails promptly and made some great suggestions.
The day was rainy but Peter was there with a wheelchair for me and off we went. We started with a visit to the Van Gogh museum, which Peter thought was a good start on a rainy day. We then visited the Nine Little Streets, the Red & Blue Light districts, and more. We sampled local coffee at a cafe, the Open Market and strooplwaffle, a local lunch, chocolates, and a local bar for beer. A full day!.
During the entire tour we felt like Peter was showing us his city as a friend and not as a tour guide. So refreshing! And Peter being the gracious host knew we were tired and got us back to the hotel in a car.
Thank you Peter. We'll tour with you anytime we're in Amsterdam.

A highlight of my recent summer was an outstanding bicycling tour with Peter Dohman. Sandwiched between 4K rides (on a city bike) between the hotel and bike shop was a 74K tour west out of the city to the North Sea. The trip included a beer stop at the beach as well as lunch in a nearby seaside town. Peter's true wheelhouse is private museum tours and other city based guided tours where he can put to use his vast knowledge and experience. This tour may have been out of his comfort zone but it did not show. The entire experience was first rate and memorable. Thank you Peter!

Our friends on an AMA cruise gave us your card and shared what a wonderful day they experienced with you in Amsterdam. We will be in Voorburg this week and wondered if you are available for a tour Tuesday, Thursday or Friday. We have tickets for the Anne Frank house on Wednesday. Hi David,
Great to hear from you And I just see that I have an opening on the 18th of July.
My specialty is local Amsterdam but it is always possible to see the countryside.
I would choose a different route because Zaansche Schans, Volendam And Marken is extremly touristy.
I use a driver And a deluxe Mercedes-Van.
I charge 125 per hour.
All tickets, transport And lunch is included.
I would suggest including Amsterdam.
I do not focus on the history but much more on local life, good food, drinks And entertainment! I show you all the highlights offcourse And the hidden gems.
You get to Experience Amsterdam And the countryside with a local "like a local"!
I would suggest starting in Amsterdam on foot then after a couple of hours take the Mercedes Van to Zaansche Schans And after an hour take the same Van to Volendam.
Volendam is not that great but it is the best way to get to Marken. We will take the boat.
In the evening we will take the boat back And then back to Amsterdam by taxi.
This is just a suggestion offcourse.

Hi Peter,
Wondering if you have availability for a tour of the city for a half day on October 1st or 2nd, 2015. 2 people - interests would be the market areas, restaurants/cafes with regional foods, possibly the flower market if there is activity on the days we are in town and how to get around on the trams and also canal boats if we want a leisurely ride later one afternoon. Also, approx cost for 4 - 6 hours of your time.
