Well worth a visit as this beautiful building is just full of history. We visited to see an exhibition but it is worth popping in just to admire the building itself. We also stayed for a light lunch in the dining room (small menu - falafel was good, pie of the day was tasty and the staff were very friendly).

The Art Nouveau appointments alone are enough of a justification to visit, but then there are the acres of paintings in all styles from all over the country that make this is a delightful visit. The food is extremely limited, so by all means, have a glass of wine when you visit, but you probably want to eat your food somewhere else.

I came here as staying in Charing Cross, having never visited I decided to take the short walk to view the building and their Winter Exhibition. Its breathtaking inside, from the formal dining area at the front to the wonderful main room with Rennie Mackintosh features, and lots of art. Especially loved the fireplaces and rheir carvings. A hidden gem, go see!

Saw the incredible wood and metal design of Rennie Mackintosh as we were surrounded by it in the main dining/conference room. What a delight!

Attended a formal dinner here. What a fantastic venue, the main dining hall is amazing. The staff were friendly and the food was very good fare. All in all a great place to hold a function.

Bit of a Goya 'Gloom and Doom' girl myself so on Glasgow Open Doors Sunday , straight up to the top of Bath Street to 185 expecting a rather 'stuffy' reception. Wrong. Almost 2 hours later, having seriously reviewed my' brushwork' and awash in pastels, watercolours, oils and the wonders of Keppie and Mackintosh, I was so so reluctant to leave.
The townhouse itself is an architectural masterpiece . The gallery has been restored to the original Keppie and Rennie Mackintosh vision and the Mackintosh frieze superbly re-created. The doors; furniture; fireplaces; bell plates; door plates and check out the plates in the lavish dining rooms as well. Lovely for a function.
Wandered up through luxurious rooms enjoying the Autumn Exhibition (loved the Scott Walker ) and the more permanent works on display from icons like Emilio Coia.
Staff were so welcoming. knowledgeable and some so snappily dressed for the occasion that the Goyesque Glasgow sky was temporarily sunny. Well, it is the Art Club in Glasgow so a degree of flamboyance is expected.
If you are a tourist, this should be on your 'must see' list. A quite exclusive Mackintosh and Keppie treasure still under the 'tourist' radar. You'll be the envy of other Mackintosh fans. See it all before the secret gets out ! The street is so easy to find!
If you are local like me, then a 'wee' step out of the usual' Glasgow Comfort Zone' is well worth it.
Guided tours are on Tuesday mornings and I think are a reasonable £5 including tea/coffee. Otherwise the exhibitions are open to the public from 11am to 5pm except Sundays. Probably wise to check the website.
The wonderful Autumn exhibition can still be viewed until the 20th of October and there's a new exhibition of Joe Hargan's works starting on the 15th October.
Can't wait !

We rang the bell from the street during the visiting hours for the general public (i.e. non-members) which are 12 noon to 5 pm, Monday to Saturday and were greeted at the door almost immediately.

We received a very welcoming introduction to the club, a summary pamphlet and told what we could see and then we were left to our own devices.

There was an exhibition of artwork by the club members (which were for sale) which was very varied. Upstairs was another exhibition of some of the club's art collection, in celebration of their 150 year anniversary.

The highlight was the Gallery or "Long Room" which was built in 1893 by John Keppie with input from a young Charles Rennie Mackintosh. You definitely can see Mackintosh's influence in this room. It has been recently refurbished back to what is believed to be its appearance when it had been initially completed. There are some lovely pieces of period furniture in this room. My favourite feature was the freize (by Mackintosh).

Toilets were available. We didn't feel rushed at all and took our time.

Its definitely worth popping in!

This building was designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh and in the Dining room there are 2 magnificent Fire places one at each end, panelled in so much oak with Medullery rays that they are so beautiful along with the rest of the architecture which is so pleasant on the eye it was a joy to spend and evening there with good company and excellent food and wine
