I had to jump in here as a reviewer claimed Kinder Low is not a mountain when it is - it's over 2000ft. No idea why they believe it's not a mountain so if this puts you off going, don't listen. Anything over 2000ft is a mountain with no debate. It's a great area by the way if you haven't done it. I think this and Mam Tor are the two best in the peaks.

It is one of my favourite places to visit in the Peak District. Breathtaking views, beautiful vibes, fantastic hiking. We normally start hiking from Kidd Road, Glossop, all the way up to the summit.

An amazing hike in The Peak District, definitely one of my favourites so far!!!
We walked along Pennine Way, towards Jacob’s Ladder then we did the climb up to Kinder Scout - we did the circular route from Edale station.
The views are breathtaking, such beautiful scenery, however this changed very quickly as bad weather came over, this made for very poor visibility! The winds, heavy rain, hail made it quite a tough walk. Make sure you’re prepared for this!
We will definitely return in the summer months.
I would highly recommend this walk, it is a challenge but well worth it!!! ⛰️

A great walk to/from Edale station. We found that the weather can be quite changeable (we had sun, wind, rain, hail) - so be prepared and take the right gear with you & decent walking boots. Only slight negative is that one of the paths between Grindslow Knoll (where you cross the river) to Kinder Downfall is non-existant, so we had to walk across 1-2 miles of soggy/wet marshland. This was OK with us, but may not be to every-bodies liking. Going down Jacobs Ladder at the end of the day was tough on the legs; but we are glad we did the walk!

Hiked here today, the best hike I’ve done out of the two in the Peak District, the other being Mam Tor. It was varied, challenging, the hardest hike I’ve done so far but the views and nature beauty are probably worth the pain.

A challenging route, but so, so rewarding! I recommend checking weather forecast before hiking, wearing suitable boots and waterproof+windproof clothing. Kinder Scout from Barber Booth through Jacob's ladder and descent via Grindsbrook Clough was my route last Friday. I absolutely recommend it as the views are stunning!

This walk was phenomenal! except for a couple bits and bobs that put a tiny bit of a downer on the day... The climb was beautiful, my little Manchester terrier Ringo loved the little stones and the grassy fields. We encountered a slight issue when we arrived at the plateau... I appreciate time was taken to place all those huge rocks at the top but the majority were just in our way! My Ringo couldn't cope with the wind, he kept edging closer and closer to the edge so I had to put him in my rucksack, i was wanting a dog walk not a dog shaped kite. Ringo destroyed my bag. The decent was then delightful and Ringo got a drink from a stream down near the reservoir.

A great 1st walk for many of our U11s rugby team. We used it for team building and bonding. It worked great and for the parents and coaches. Tough up Jacobs ladder for a few……of the parents but the boys did it pretty straightforwardly but did enjoy their lunch at the top. Came down via the boulder field. We were welll prepared with maps and an experienced leader. The weather closed in on top but all carried waterproofs so no issues. Great pub The Ramblers at the bottom for refreshments before the bus ride back South. Great day out for all. Best view…..a hen party climbing up the waterfall route for their weekend away. Respect!!

Went with a walking group and we all met up at Bowden Bridge car park. It’s £4.75 to park there and does not take cash. Most of us parked up on the main road.
We started the hike walking past the reservoir. Had plenty of breaks along the way and time to admire the environment. Lots of waterfalls and streams. It was a lovely warm day but we felt the cool breeze when we got to the top. Amazing views from here and we could see the Manchester skyline clearly.
We continue on along the tops. Our walk leader pointed out Mermaids pool. We continued on until we reached the trig point. Then we started our descent. It was very steep and tricky, like walking down a thousand steps. It was 9 miles in total.
At the end of our hike and return to the car park we found some grass where we prayed our salaat.

Hello, I'd like to take the walk from Edale during the last week of January. I am not familiarize at all with the path and I would like to have your advices about the starting time and weather conditions. I've read that there are no signals during the path, is that true? Also, do you recomend to take the path by my own? Do people make groups totake the walk together?
Cheers.

Hello, wanting to take the kids here (1.5yrs and 6yrs), would it be suitable for them? Little one will be in a child carrier: )
Thanks .

I think if you was to just do a small part of it then yes however its quite steep in places and probably not the safest for children that young as under 5.

Park in Hayfield, use ordnance survey map OL1. Look for Kinder Reservoir, then walk up past this and you'll find waterfalls, rock formations and a decent hill climb

How difficult is the walk for someone not fully able? i.e. how long will it take? It looks amazing and I really want to do it but have arthritis.
Geschreven op 27 mei 2018
It might be rather tiring as the ground is uneven and there are quite some steps on the way up Jacobs Ladder. It would be a challenge so I would recommend going with a friend who is patient and will stick by you. I would give it at least 8 hours maybe more.

Hi, can anyone tell me which route to pick with small kids (2,5,7)?
Geschreven op 15 april 2018
Jacobs ladder, park at Upper Booth, a solid surface and is easy to follow path. A two year old is going to struggle with the terrain and distance.

Does anyone know how long it will take to get from Hayfield to Kinder Downfall? Not fussed about doing the full route/walk but needing to make it to the Downfall.
Geschreven op 2 april 2018
I usually park at Bowden Bridge car park or side of the road for free parking if I'm doing Kinder Scout from Hayfield end.
It is just over 3 miles from the car park to the Kinder Downfall walking past the Kinder Reservoir.
It would take approx. 1.5 hours at a steady pace as it can be a little difficult; there are great views along the way.
The paths are well trodden and easy to navigate. You could do a slightly different route down to the reservoir to save repeating yourself if you fancy.
Hope you enjoy the walk

To be honest it's not a challenging route most ways, theres a local centre with a map and depending on how long you have to spend you can pick a route

Hello, Do you mind telling me where you started the trek and did you need a map?
Geschreven op 30 juni 2015
Hi
The best route would be from the Hayfield car park over the bridge and start the ascend. It is a well trodden pathway, so no need for a map. I would recommend going on a free walking tour with the Peak District Rangers as their local knowledge and experience is simply magnificent. Plz just call them up to arrange a free tour. Plz see my review if you get the chance.
Happy rambling !
