Well, the umbrellas have disappeared but this small'ish shopping precinct does have high end dept. store (Fenwicks) plus Flying Tiger (always fun) & a few small independent places to poke your nose into.

Little has changed over the years...with Fenwicks at the bottom of the slope alongside Primark and the Jorvik centre nearby...shops do come and go but there is something for everyone's taste and pocket right here in the centre of York!

Scoops in the Coppergate shopping centre sells great quality ice cream. The owner recommended the creamy raspberry pannacotta yesterday and it was just...chef's kiss! Easygoing, friendly guy playing great music and he was very close to the Jorvik Viking Centre. I hope we find him again next time we visit York.
I can't comment on the shopping experience as we didn't shop elsewhere.

Always like to come here to walk under the umbrellas, but this time, it is under lights...can only presume this is either Christmas or that they have made them the new feature. Lots of love shops and attrations to visit...but remember to book these during busy times!

I visited here with my husband mid-week.
I have been before on several occasions but he has not.
Neither of us are shoppers.
But we were in the square for the Jorvik Centre so looked in a few shops whilst we were there.
The umbrellas hanging up along the street were pretty and I liked those.
The Whisky Shop was decent as well, although the staff not really approachable or seeming to care about helping us (we weren't just curious tourists, we actually wanted to buy!)
The shops here are more chain and commercial ones than on The Shambles and on the older streets of York. So better if you want an actual product rather than tourist junk. It's also less busy.
There are some coffee shops and a couple of food trucks so places to get some lunch too.
It's a decent place to pass a couple of hours in poor weather if you enjoy shopping.

The Coppergate Centre is the shopping centre within York's ancient city walls.
It has quite a rich shopping & culture offering, with a mixture of small and many large big-name high street shops, cafes, galleries & museums, and is also the site of the Jorvic Viking Centre.

Grabbed a coffee from one of the street food wagons when shopping here... Cannot remember the name but it was the sausage and burger wagon. Great coffee and enjoyed it as we walked up Coppergate, weaving in and out of shops and pedestrians. Very busy area, made busier with the Ice Trail and people wanting pix of all the sculptures on the route.

I dont spend much time in shops when I'm away on a trip but this area is different the Jorvik Viking Centre is here there is a large Fenwicks department store and amongst the chains some interesting smaller shops

Although the thought of shopping on any holiday I take sends a shiver down my spine I must admit that on our 5 days holiday to this most beautiful of city's we passed through Coppergate Shopping Centre every day and although I thought the shopping outlets were endemic high street outlets and of no real interest to me i was struck by the vibrancy of this shopping area,packed every day so its popular with locals and the hordes of tourists that head fo York ,for me there were some really good pubs close to Coppergate Shopping Centre so the area wasn't a complete bust for me.
If your into your retail therapy it's a wonderful area to visit and most definitely well worth checking out.
