Visited on Friday 16th June 2023 for the London Transport Museum Depot open day. Well set up open day, and laid out museum with talks and refreshments provided as well as a well-stocked shop. Lots of station and infrastructure stored and displayed inc numeral station signs. Lots of examples of rolling stock through the ages, as well as buses etc. More of an overground transport fan so left me a little cold but nice opportunity to view this on one of the few open days that the Acton depot is open.

Been wanting to visit the Depot for a long time and managed to obtain a couple of tickets for one of the few days a year its open to the public.
Was not disappointed, Lots to see and plenty of extra talks and tours on the day that can be booked. These are free and should be booked on arrival as the number of spaces available are limited and are taken very quickly.

Its great that all this history is being kept and is actively being updated with not only old items but new modern items as well.
You can sit in a lot of the old carriages and the staff can tell you a bit of history about them. It brought back a lot of memories when I was a child and lived in London in the late 60's and early 70's, where my dad was underground train driver for a number of years before we moved out of London.

Will certainly visit again. Allow 2-4 hours for you visit. 2 hours if you are just going to look around, but allow up to 4 hours if you are going to do a couple of the tours and read all the signs and information in detail.

Two-year old grandson and eighty-year old grandfather enjoyed it equally. We clambered on old buses and tube carriages, and were greeted everywhere by friendly and knowledgeable volunteers, who really made the visit special.

Most museums don't let you see the tons of exhibits that they have in their stores - but the London Transport Museum does! You can only visit on special occasions and we had heard that they had a convenient open day so we booked it and went.

As well as buses, trains, trams and trolley buses, there is a huge set of signage (you could even buy some from the new Elizabeth Line if you were feeling flush!) but most interestingly, loads of kit, including the remains of an incomplete spiral escalator that was not put into use due to safety fears!

One lady gave a talk supported by photographs of some items that she found most interesting. Some useful stories. As our trip was during school term time, most people were retired, and many were ex-TfL employees with many memories of their own work, including a taxi driver of 36 years, who confirmed that the green shed cafe by Russell Square was indeed still used by taxi drivers.

Getting more hands on experience would have made it better, but well done to TfL for making this resource available!

I arranged a private tour of the depot for my Dad's birthday, and it was such a wonderful, memorable day out for all of us. My Dad is equally as interested in the art as the trains and buses so instead of having to choose one tour, the team gave us a full depot discovery tour and then Michael, the depot manager very kindly gave us an additional bonus tour of the art and posters! It was a fantastic, personalised experience so I would really encourage anyone to consider booking a private tour for a special present for anyone interested in the history of London Transport. It also works out as good value if you go as a group, especially for the quality of the experience you get. I also think it's worth mentioning that the whole depot is wheelchair accessible, and they can provide a wheelchair for you.

Staff lacked experience and knowledge.
Access to most exhibits forbidden.
Tramways, once important in London, were assigned to "peripheral interest".
Chaotic presentation.
I suggest visit to Brussels Tramway Museum.
There are better sites in the UK.

I visited on one of their open days and had a really good time viewing all the exhibits. There were some extra tours to show you more stuff such as posters which were interesting. I t was a really good day out. Highly recommended. The only negative would perhaps be that the Underground Roundels display is in very narrow terraced lanes with poor indication of direction.

What an amazing place, lots of really interesting artefacts and vehicles to get up close to. We benefited from a guided tour when we arrived which laid the foundation for our day and also booked a visit to the poster room. The volunteers are so knowledgeable and keen to share their extensive knowledge with visitors. We really enjoyed our day, it was great to see to some really historic pieces in the extensive collection that we were first introduced to courtesy of ‘Secrets of the London Underground’ on the TV.

We came fro the North to London to come here at it was well worth the travel
.

It was good to see things that so far I have only seen on tv

The museum was busy but not too jammed, the shop had very interesting things for sale.

The vehicles are in exemplary state. Thoroughly enjoyed the day and been able to walk around at leisure having a good look at the things not in the Covent Garden Museum
