We had a 2 day trip to Oxford with a trip to this organic farm on the way back to Manchester. The family and people working in the cafe and shop were very friendly and welcoming; thanks to Rory and Kira. . The wild garlic scones and soup were delicious. We had a look around the farm (buy a ticket in the cafe) which was absolutely lovely. The short walk through the wooded area with the tree houses etc. and through the fields to look at the horses, chickens, goats and vegetable patch was great. Various sustainable features added to the visit including the toilets! It did help that it was a sunny warm day, but the setting is so tranquil and beautiful. We bought some organic meat and eggs from the shop before we set off home. It was well worth the visit and easy to find. We will certainly go again.

It was a lovely and informative outing for the younger city dwellers in our group despite the fact that one of them wouldn't hold a chick because they had the heebie geebies (never mind that they are 21 - the young person, not the chick) and the 17 year old refused to use the compost toilet. We really enjoyed the BBQ. Perhaps sometime in the future there could be an option to order meat product in advance to be cooked on the farm BBQ for visitors so that they could have what they prefer, especially if they live in flats and do not own a barbecue kettle. Cooking under the grill is just not the same. Needless to say, the food is fresh and delicious, and the ice-cream delectable. Think about the BBQ suggestion and we could be visiting more often.

Booked 5 days camping with my 2 grandchildren as they both love animals ( Monday to Friday) . After reading the website about helping feeding the animals and goat milking ect from 9.30 in the morning and again in the evening , I thought this would be ideal so rang and booked. During the 5 days my grandchildren never fed the animals at all. The farm was closed in the mornings due to them being busy with the festival the following weekend. (Wasnt informed of this when I rang and booked ). If I was told that the children wouldn't of been able to feed the animals ect then I would of booked a alternative farm .
Basically it cost me 40 pound a night to sit in a field which I could of done for half that price down the road and was left with 2 disappointed grandchildren. We had to clear our pitch of rubbish before setting up our tent and also couldnt let the kids play at the edges of the field as it was littered with dog poo from the 3 dogs that are on the camping field. The only day they saw the milking was on the Monday and we had to beg to let them in to see the chickens . The whole reason we booked was so that the kids could feed and learn about the animals. Sadly this didn't happen. Toilets, showers and pot washing areas very poor with no hot water.

Went to Willowbrook yesterday with my 2 daughters 4 and 14, surprisingly there was something for all 3 of us. The formal tour was informative, little one loved the animal handling along the way, forest playground kept the kids occupied whilst a few of the grownups could Q+A the farmer informally, followed by BBQ around £10 each. I’d read some of the negative comments and have to say, the tour was run by farmers who are running the farm, having been there and spoken to them, this sounds like an incredibly hard job (I’m totally non farming background and completely inner city London) and perhaps stress could spill over, but this did not happen on our visit.
As a single Muslim mum, I’m often apprehensive about attending Muslim spaces such as these due to fear of judgement, However to me everyone was friendly, pleasant and warmly welcoming even when someone left the gate open and the goats escaped! If you’re a Muslim mummy like me of just mummy wanting to do something with the kids without another adult, this place is great! Go for it!
The only recommendation is that (when the family have time) to organise outreach events in city communities such as mine, there has been so much interest with everyone I’ve mentioned it to.
Note to trip advisor: you need an option for teens and young children, rather than having to choose one of the two.

Many people know that muslims eat halal
meat, however not many people know what halal actually means (when it’s followed properly). Halal means allowed (as in what has been allowed within the boundaries of Islam). When it comes to halal meat - this is a topic which greatly interests me as we are true foodies in our family. It’s controversial, some people who may not understand it entirely believe it’s cruel, there is also the stunned vs non-stunned debate.
Today we visited Willowbrook Farm in Kinglington near Bicester in Oxfordshire. What an insightful day out for people of any faith. We met farmer and owner Lutfi Radwan and his whole family who run the farm. Many of you may remember Ben Fogle did a documentary series called “New Lives in the Wild” and Lutfi’s family and the farm were in one of the episodes where Ben spent a few days with the family.
For my family it was a massively intriguing day out. It started with a talk with Lutfi’s son Adam about the farm’s poultry, the chickens, geese, guinea vowel and how they are ethically raised to ensure the high quality of life. The family kept highlighting the point that halal isn’t just about the last few seconds and the killing of an animal, it’s about the entire life cycle to ensure the animals happiness and comfort - a happy mind, a healthy body - hence tasty meat. . They explained how they try not to use chemicals and traditional medicine to ensure the animals are kept as natural as possible.
We saw the farmhouse (Cob House) built only around six years ago, entirely by the family using cob with a thatched roof. Lutfi despite being such a busy man, spent time with me, Bilkis Haque and Maryam and explained different things to us. He always seems to be in every part of the farm all the time and his family have the same blessed hard work ethic - it’s so inspirational to see! We then went on to meet the goats and see them being milked and Adam spoke about the goats, sheep etc
The best bit for me was a beautiful barbecue using meat supplied by the farm. It only consisted of beef burgers with salad/coleslaw but the burgers were so juicy. For drinks we bought some apple juice which was pressed by a local man who goes around the farms and collects apples to ensure they don’t go to waste - again going back to an ethical business model where nothing is wasted. After lunch another talk about growing garlic, potatoes and other vegetables. The cafe side of things was run by Lutfi’s other son Khalil and Khalil’s wife were also present helping run the shop and cafe. We had some amazing home made ice cream. We bought quite a bit from the farm shop; eggs, ribeye steak, chicken and bottles of the pressed apple juice.
I have to admit at this point I’m sitting in the car with the air conditioning on craving a coke with ice and lemon and a nap - my wife and daughter are in the play area which is about 200 metres away but I’m done - I feel i’ve missed out on the last bit but I’d rather not get too tired.
This place is so peaceful, it’s got an air of spirituality around it. I’m not leaving with the feeling it’s just about Islam and halal, I’m leaving it feeling it’s about how all animals that are reared for meat and how all vegetables should be ethically raised and grown, whatever faith one is from. It’s an entire ethical business model based around sustainability, animal welfare and minimum wastage.
Willowbrook farm has a few areas available for camping and glamping available. By the way this was the first time I’ve been to the toilet on a compost toilet, quite exhilarating, nerve racking and something different - this may be the one place that could persuade me to try camping for ONE NIGHT!
If you can - please do come and visit. Please support this ethically sustained business. To some it may seem pricey, but please visit with an open mind abc a willingness to learn. Think about how the farm is totally self sustainable - it’s a business and it’s the family’s lives / people say I inspire them through my disability and determination but today the Radwan family has inspired me through their mission to remain ethical, their attitude to pure hard work but especially how they stay true to their cause.
Well done Lutfi, Ruby, Adam, Khalil, Ali and the rest of the team, it was a honour to meet you and inshallah we won’t remain strangers.

Went for a lovely friday evening camping on a hot week in July. As we were arriving after the farm shop shut we called ahead and got our homegrown meat order waiting for us for our bbq. Lovely camping meadow with plenty of room for fires etc & we were one of only about 4 sets of campers so incredibly peaceful & relaxing. In the morning we watched the goats being milked & had a light & v nice lunch with local produce inc apple juice. Came back feeling like 24 hours away had been about 5 days. Great tasting meat & the fact that it is no alcohol guarantees that you don’t get some bunch of idiots so is v v family friendly. One gripe: some child-size compost toilet seats please.

A lovely spring day on the farm was tonic for the soul. I booked to attend the day-long lambing course and enjoyed every moment. Lovely people, lovely food and a lot of fun!

I went to this site for a 2 night camping trip from Yorkshire with my family including teens and younger children. Did a lot of research of this site and attracted by the fact that many other Muslims were there and can purchase halal meat. Enjoy the farm tour shop, cafe and surrounding areas. Campsite does need more attention as grass wasn't cut where we pitched. toilet and shower facilities not very clean, basic modern or easy for the users to make it more enjoyable time there. Even harder for the kids when they say they won't use the toilets or showers! Facilites had a sustainable aspect which is fine but it still needs maintenance and improvements which it lacked. Otherwise we enjoyed other bits and experience was one we won't forget!

Truely an amazing farm, the course showed me how every step in their production of meat considered the ethics and rights of animals. They were also so warm and friendly. You won't regret going, it was a great day!

I would first of all like to say that we greatly enjoyed camping on the farm grounds. However, the reason for only giving a three out of five rating is the very poor toilet & wash facilities. I hate to complain but what little facilities there were, were in an awful state. Luckily we had our own toilet roll! The toilets could do with a regular clean, the one I sat on felt like it was going to fall off it's mount when I sat on it. As a man it is awkward to have to use a shower that is located in the "womans" bathroom! I found this not only very awkward/embarrassing but also somewhat strange considering we on a farm run by a Muslim family.
We get the whole ethos of running a sustainable farm. Everything else we loved. The farm animals, hearing and seeing the Owls & Woodpeckers was a joy. The family members that we met were all very helpful and friendly. Please just sort out your washblock and it would be perfect.
