ZERO stars for the man working the ‘door’/ ticket guy/ info booth, 4 starts for the place.

It is now $10 to enter per person and the guy at the front can give you information on how to get to the spots in English or in Spanish. He seemed very nice. This is not for people that have any kind of walking problems or young children. It is very steep with no shade, and all on the craggy volcanic rock . Even though we listen to the speech we did not find the tide pool so we had to go back to the front and he re-explained. So in all we probably walked for at least an hour and a half in the hot sun. You can see the glitch from the top of the Cave, I’m impressed by them for whatever reason – but it was still cool for most of my friends from up there of the water and the arches is really amazing.

We couldn’t find the tide pools or the other area so we asked at the front and he explained how to get there. After about another 25 minutes Over the ridge we found the other area which was very cool and beautiful. Luckily, we found a shortcut back to the road so we didn’t have to traverse over the whole area again.

The problem rose when we got back to the parking lot and we needed to re-enter the area because our friend had waited under
The trees (she has bad knees). He would not let us re-enter. He said he saw a circling the parking lot. We showed him our tickets. He still said no. We said our friend is sitting inside. We just came an hour and a half ago. He said, “how can I be expected to remember everyone” to which I said “ you can’t, that is why you gave us tickets and we are showing them to you.” He said that people constantly try to pass each other tickets to get in for free. I said just because somebody at some point has done that does not mean you should judge everybody on that. We are 50-year-old people from the mainland, I don’t think we’re the likely candidates to try a scam for $10, he was adamant we not go back in and made us feel really badly about the whole thing, even though we did nothing wrong.

This is a national park not a high stakes security area really ridiculous to get so sty and bossy about something. It ruined the whole day for a friend of mine.

It should also be noted that you need to be at least medium physical fitness to do this. Not too old, not with flip-flops, not young kids. We saw somebody with a stroller – there’s literally nothing you can do with a stroller everything is on the craggy rocks.

the trees.

My wife and I visited on a Monday, parking along the road near the 7.6 mile marker. A few hundred feet east was a stairway down to the beach, marked with a sign. We made our way east along the beach (1/4 mile?) to the rock mound. The climb up might be challenging for some. Once on top be aware of unmarked holes that drop into the cave below. A quarry created by the Spanish makes for a natural ampitheater with views, and at the corner of the quarry is the entrance to the cave. A local, Daniel, offered to guide me and took me through the slot pathway and showed me handholds and footholds that I may have missed in the dim light. Daniel was an excellent guide, showing a variety of petroglyphs and natural features of this ancient religious site. The highlight of our trip to PR for me.

Regardless of what you may read online there is only parking available onsite. The roadside is one lane in each direction with no shoulder. This place closes on the dot so plan accordingly and allot at least an hour to see it. The view is excellent and totally worth it. Restrooms located on site.

My wife and I hiked the arches and cave from the public beach access. It's labeled but easy to miss since it's very small with a small area to park a few cars across the street. Google directions take you past the point and closer to the paid private parking lot which features painted fences in a large painted sign. If you see these you have gone too far. Turn around and look for the small access point a few houses down.
From the beach you will have to hike up the cliffs near the water to see the arches and eventually the cave.
We went on the rainiest day on record so we weren't able to go down into the cave since climbing surfaces were slick and the waves were crashing into the cave making it possibly unsafe. But it looks possible with some climbing skills and dry surfaces. Still we were able to see the petroglyphs from the entrance of the cave and we had a lot of fun watching the waves crash against the rocks. There are also some holes that spew air and water when the waves crash. Overall a pretty cool place to visit.

Took us over an hour to arrive, we always wanted and were curious about visiting this site. Once there, the parking, location and overall appearance was disappointing. Place not well maintained. Trash, stray dogs, and debris. A gentleman selling souvenirs controlled the entrance to the site. Ten dollars per head. Since we were already there, we felt no other option than to pay and enter. The gentleman was very polite and provided a brief explanation of the site. No signs, pamphlets, no toilets, map, etc. if you don’t understand Spanish, you are at a lost. Even if you understand Spanish, the brief was so quick and expedient and very difficult to grasp. The place is unsafe. But the views are beautiful once you get up there. Not worth $10 per head. No government or private entity oversight.

We stopped by on a whim and was wearing flip flops. I did bring my 4 yo and she did fine. We did not go all the way to the beach as there was a thunder storm in the distance coming in and had started raining. However, we did park in the lot and paid. I saw the free reviews after as I had not had this planned prior to showing up. Was able to make my way in flip flops but would suggest better footwear. The rocks and arches were pretty and nice to see. Is it worth paying for? Meh, I probably would have went the free version had I known better.

The area at Cueva del Indio was awesome. I did not go into the cave itself. My daughter did. It is climbing and difficult and I am not very agile at my old age. The crack in my picture is one way to climb in. But the area is great for hiking and seeing the Seven Arches. Definitely need tennis shoes. We paid for parking and it was worth it for us to have someone to explain where to go and what to look for. Locals park along the side of the road, but it was not obvious to a tourist where you could park and where to go hike. We might try to find it on our next trip, but it was good to have a parking place, a restroom, and water for sale. Don't forget the sunscreen. I didn't think I needed it for a cave, but definitely did for the hike. I burned my shoulders. The views were beautiful. If you go far enough you will see lots of tide pools. Very interesting.

Listen, don't pay for these caves. Look for the small sign on the road right before the large colored sign with the Fences. There is going to be an opening in the jungle; walk through there and you will see the beach and two coral arches - one on the right and one on the left. Walk left and you will come around to where the caves are. If you pay, you will feel really silly. Also, just a heads up, I found this to be a bigger problem for people who are scared of heights than people who are scared of small spaces. I saw old people and little kids crushing it, but I am scared of heights and just couldn't do it.
