Haines is the epitome of small town Alaska. Nestled at the foot of snow capped mountains and framed by the sea it's an ideal spot on your Alaska journey to decompress and enjoy hospitality, wilderness and quirky charm. It's advantage of being located on mainland Alaska with road access to Canada's Yukon territory as well as other points on the Alaskan mainland.

The knowledge of our guides was tremendous. We were well cared for and had the opportunity to see countless eagles. The lunch set was great.

I am an avid cruiser. This was my first experience in Alaska. We wanted to make sure we made the most of our time and booked way in advance. We were bumped off of the tour because another party booked from the ship.
Since when is non refundable only good one way?
So dissappointed. There is nothing to do in Haines without a pre booked tour. They are too small and not experienced with tourism in Haines.

AVOID!
Booked this more than a month in advance on their site. They bumped us for parties from cruises. Sent us an email while we were on the ship so we didn’t get it. Showed up for our excursion and they told us we were bumped. All other excursions were already booked. There is NOTHING to do in Haines if you’re not on a pre booked excursion.

Terrible experience! We booked our float trip 6 weeks before our arrival. I received email confirmation from the company the day before we left on our cruise. When we arrived in Haines for our trip we were told at the dock that our reservation at has been canceled. They filled our spots with people who had booked through the cruise ship and bumped us off the list. They said that they had already refunded our money and that we should’ve known about it since they emailed us on Monday with that information. The only problem about that is that we were on a cruise ship and didn’t check her emails while we were on our vacation. Had I known earlier in the trip I might’ve been able to reschedule something for that port of call. Instead, every available excursion was already booked and we ended up sitting on the ship for the entire day. I have never had this happen before in the multiple cruise experiences that I’ve had and I can’t believe how unprofessional and unethical this company was to pump at 16 reservations but it already been confirmed.

Great float down river! The guides were friendly and they provided a great experience. There is road construction which cut into our time on the river. The lunch was basic with sandwich, chips and a really good cookie. Masks required on the bus but they provide than. They also provide boots so you don’t have to bring your own water footwear.

This was a very fun trip and educational. Our guide was fun and very knowledgeable. I lost my camera it was found after we went back to the ship. They were very helpful and sent my camera to my home promptly.

After booking and paying a month in advance and confirming the day before our tour, we arrived to find out that this amateur inept organization overbooked our tour and refused to let us on. Since we were in Haines for one day only, we had nothing to do because all the tours were booked out. They offered us nothing. They blamed their lack of professionalism on Princess Cruises, telling us it was their fault because they over booked and Princess insisted all their passengers had priority. I talked to Princess and they claim they said nothing of the kind. Beware of this company. They left us in Haines with nothing to do the entire day. Never even an apology from management if they have any.

This was a very fun tour. Ryan and Danny were knowledgeable and passionate about Alaska's wildlife, which I very much appreciated. I noticed that the entry to the foundation was $15.00 but the tour was $60.00. I wondered if we should have just walked over to the foundation and saved $90.00, but Ryan and Danny took us to a beautiful Vista viewing point, and we were able to ask a lot of questions of them about Haines, which was enjoyable. Also, Ryan made it clear, that without people like us taking the tour, people like him wouldn't have a job in Haines and he appreciated our support. We were more than happy to infuse a little money into their community.

My wife and I were able to enjoy a rafting trip through the Chilkat Eagle Preserve with Dr Ramsey and our guide, Preston. We saw some great scenery and dozens of eagles along with a couple of moose on our return home. I think this would be a great trip with any guides, but the end of the trip is when their character really shined.
While I did not see precisely how it occurred, a few guests exited their rafts just off the bank rather than directly onto shore as was intended. The banks are made of rather tenacious glacier silt and quickly grab onto the feet of people attempting to wade through the shallow water. It is also quite cold water as it has all just melted off the glacier.
With the lead of Scott Ramsey, he and all the guides immediately went to work, using their oars and supply lids to help displace the weight and help the guests loosen themselves from the mud and onto the shore.
Once to shore, they continued to address the medical urgency as the guests were at risk of hypothermia. They had blankets and dry clothing to quickly help them change.
Professionally, part of my responsibility is leading what people would know as a “Code Blue Team” in the hospital. In those emergencies, part of my job is insuring that everyone follows their training as the anxiety of the situation can quickly lead to chaos. What I saw that day on the river was a group of professionals who all knew what they were trained to do and worked together to rescue these people. I was on the cruise ship with two of the individuals who had become entrapped. They were smiling enjoying themselves when I ran into them the next day. If these guides were not so competent, I don’t believe it is an exaggeration to say with those water temperatures, things could have ended much differently.
I am certain they will review what occurred and how to prevent a similar accident from happening in the future, but accidents do and always will happen, and it is good to be with a group of individuals prepared to respond when they do.

Yes, there is a ferry ride involved which was included when we booked. Met just off the cruise ship pier.
