This tour was the highlight of our time in Austria. Bruno was a fantastic tour guide and was very knowledgeable on all the sites we went to. Not only did we learn fun facts about the movie but learned about the real Von Trapp family as well. The tour was well paced and the smaller tour size allowed for a more personalized experience that didn't feel crowded.
I cannot say enough how much we loved our time in Hallstatt. Having some general information about the town with time to explore it on our own was fantastic. It was beautiful and had so much to see. We would definitely go back on another trip to Hallstatt as well.

Our tour guide, Jonathan, was amazing! He was informative, helpful and nice to spend the day with overall.
That being said, I was a bit disappointed in the actual tour since we literally did a 'drive by' on most of the "Sound of Music" places you would expect to see. A lot of the reason is that no one is allowed to stop or visit the places like the Abbey, music venue, houses etc.
Hallstatt was a different story. Completely enjoyed this part of our tour. I recommend when you get there go immediately to the vernacular and take it to the top. There is a restaurant there where you can have lunch with the most amazing view!

I had emailed the company about booking this tour for February and I was told that they would need 4 people to start it since the month is considered their low season. I went ahead and booked it anyway. On the day of the tour, our guide Bruno came to pick us up and took us through the city. There was only two of us in the party and I'm grateful that they still went through with the tour. It was cold but quiet since again, it's not really a touristy season there. Bruno was very professional and knowledgeable. The way he introduced the region to us was very interesting and we feel that we would love to come back to Salzburg another season, when it's much warmer. I would absolutely recommend this tour to friends!

The day we spend with Jonathan as our driver for the SOM/ Hallstadt Tour was one of the best on our recent vacation. He was early picking us up at our hotel in an 8 person van. We spent the morning visiting SOM sites and listening to Von Trappe Family lore. The afternoon took us through the alpine countryside to Hallstadt, where we had a lunch stop. Unfortuneatley, many restauants were closed because of the winter season. But the stop and the funicular ride to the top of the mountain ( extra cost) was well worth it for the vistas. Please consider Bob's Tours when visiting Salzburg- and ask for Jonathan as your safe and informative driver.

What a lovely Tour! Fritz was great! So funny and made the trip fun.

Bruno, our tour guide was very knowledgeable, professional and I can tell he was a well seasoned and experienced at his job!
He did what he can at making us feel comfortable and answered all our questions.

I'm so glad we did this particular tour experience! Being in an 8-passenger van, as opposed to a large bus, made for an intimate guided tour in a comfortable vehicle. The locations from The Sound of Music were great, but, to my surprise, I loved seeing Hallstatt and the gorgeous lakes of Austria even more. Having 2 hours to explore Hallstatt was perfect; the day was very well paced. The tour guide was kind, fun, and knowledgable. Definitely a day to remember!

We had so fun on this tour! You won’t regret it. We typically never do tours when we visit places preferring instead to do our own thing but we broke down for “just this once” and had a ball. The tour guide is a riot and very informative on many things related to the VonTrapp family and the making of the movie.
He had us singing “Doe a deer, a female deer...” on the ride between stops in no time and other goodies from the movie.
The sights and views were spectacular and pretty soon you are lost in the nostalgia.
This tour will actually make you happy!

I’m a huge fan of small group tours. This tour did not disappoint. Our tour guide was great - tons of knowledge. One of my favorite experiences while we visited Salzburg.

We did the full all day excursion around Salzburg with a trip to Hallstadt. At the end of the trip we were dropped off at the Garden and continued our own walking tour to visit the sites mentioned on the tour that we didn't have time to see.

Thanks so much for the helpful advice. Can't quite tell from the review: Did you book the SOM/Hallstadt Tour for a group or "private"? The experience sounds like exactly what we're looking for. We won't have a car, so this is our best option to see the Lake District. The town sounds lovely, but we tend to prefer low crowds and are going off season for just that reason. Our trip is in late October and we'd do the SOM/Hallstadt stuff on a weekday. On the other side, I see notes in other reviews that it could possibly cancel if the tour isn't full, so that's a concern as well. Any other thoughts? Thanks again.

Hi,
Its a small group tour, so the number of people will vary depending on who has booked for the same day as you. We booked online and found out the morning of the tour that it would just be my daughter and I, so basically a private tour.
The van is small and is definitely not one of the big bus tours.

What is the maximum amount of people on this tour? Is it flexible is we want to spend extra time in Hallstatt? or stop at Bad Ischl? thank you!

I believe capacity was 8 people in the bus we were in. If you have the whole bus- think you can call the shots on duration. Great tour.
