We met out tour guide "Diane" at Central Station. We were expecting a medium size group, but learned quickly enough that no one else had signed up for that days tour. Diane was very professional. She is a licensed tour guide. Rather than being cancelled, Diane showed and provided a great personalized private tour of Zaanse Schans Windmill Village. Diane provided us a two way train ticket from Central Station. Diane provided information and background details along the trip. It just so happened that the Grand Prix was occurring the same day, and the Dutch driver had won pole position. A Lot of excitement was in the air and increased traffic at the station. Upon arrival at Zaanse Schans, Diane guided us to the village via a short walk (Wear comfortable shoes) Great benefit of taking this tour was that Diane knew how to navigate the village to avoid the busload of people that were also visiting the village. (Highly recommend taking the train rather than a tour bus). Diane addressed all of our questions and actually made it feel more like having a friend taking us out to see the sites. Never rushed, we went at our pace depending on our interest and comfort. Diane also was able to get some great pictures of us rather than having to always have a "Selfie" angle. We learned a lot about the history of the village and families/buildings that are there. Upon completion of our tour, Diane made sure we felt comfortable navigating back to the train station and returning to Central Station (Very easy - Highly recommend)

This was a wonderful and easy trip starting from the central station in Amsterdam. Diana met us there to bring us to Zaanse Schans. Having a small group is the way to go as you meander through the village to see the wooden shoes, cheese makers, and windmills. It was a great way to spend an afternoon and escape the big city. Having a local like Diana to show us around made the trip even better.

If you would like a nice Dutch lady named Diana to meet you at Central Station and give you a wonderful personal tour of the Windmill Village at Zaanse Schans, look no further.
Diana met us, an adult family party of 5, at Central Station, along with our return train tickets, as planned (train tickets included in the fee).
After about 17 minutes on the train we were at Zaanse Schans station. We then took a leisurely stroll (about 15 minutes) to the Windmill Village.
Once at the village Diana took us on her ‘Diana try to avoid the queues tour’. Throughout Diana was a lovely tour guide, with in-depth knowledge about the windmills, houses and the area having grown up nearby.
It was fantastic to have someone to lead us around the attractions providing facts and insight as we went. Diana was very attentive, made sure we all had plenty of time to do what we wanted to do, and even made sure we got the best seats at talks and demonstrations. She removed all the hassle and made the day even more fantastic - thank you.
We ended our visit to Zaanse Schans with tea and lovely fresh cakes at the small bakery and cafe (recommended by Diana) on the train station side of the bridge.
(Trip Advisor - I can’t record the trip as a ‘family-adult’ visit as there is no option to do so, hence couples has been selected)

Engaging a guide from Amsterdam Centraal made the logistics and navigation to the destination a bit easier to manage. Albeit more expensive, once in Zaanse Schans, it was fortuitous to have a truly “local” tour guide (Diana) who served not just as a raconteur of village history, but demonstrated the best way to approach the old village (perambulating through the back gardens of the locals wherein some fabulous photographs could be captured). We were treated to a private demonstration by the cheese vendor and enjoyed a presentation on how wooden shoes are made. Diana highlighted the various buildings and their products and instructed us on how to continue the visit on our own once our promised two hour tour had concluded. In sum, the biggest benefits of purchasing this tour included: (1) ease of mind in negotiating the journey (as opposed to grabbing a train ticket to Zaanse Schans and using google maps to navigate to the backside of the entrance and being bold enough to poke around behind the houses), (2) overall ease in allowing another to explain the details of what one was seeing, rather than consulting a guide book, and (3) having a local person arrange for demonstrations of how local products were made. Our guide, Diana, was pleasant and friendly to 2 Americans who were visiting her country for the first time, We enjoyed our time with her and appreciated the benefits that having a “local” guide could bestow.

After a week in the bustling city of Amsterdam, it was a nice change to visit the calm and pretty town of Zaanse Schans which is less than a half hour by train. While very much a tourist destination with brief tours through the clog and cheese factories, it was a wonderful way to see a different aspect of The Netherlands and learn about the history of the town, its former habitants and of course the windmills. Climbing up the De Kat Windmill that produces paint pigments used by artists and renowned museums, was the highlight for me. Not only because I am an artist but how often does one get to climb to the high outer deck of a windmill and experience the sounds and wind that accompany the bold blades whirring in the Dutch blue sky? The backdrop of green fields dotted with windmills dating from the 17th and 18th centuries, beautifully maintained homes surrounded by gardens, floating water lilies that inspired Monet and farm animals is a real treat. Our guide Diana couldn't have been more pleasant, warm and informative. Everything written about her in the reviews is accurate; she is a wonderful calm and easy going guide whose seems to truly love sharing highlights of this region with her traveling guests.

We had the best time with Diana and enjoyed her company as a guide to Zaanse Schans. She was very communicative prior to the day of the tour. And during she provided very interesting information answered all our questions and was very patient with us - a group of 4 adults with a one year old. I would definitely recommend doing this guided tour with Diana. We had a lovely time. Thank you!

Everyone should experience the windmills, cheese factory and shoe factory. It’s the best part of Amsterdam! And this tour with Diana is the absolute best tour one can book!!! Diana is a perfect, friendly, warm and certified guide!! She picked us up at the train station in the city and took us to Zaans. The ride at 8am was just 15 mins and we arrived before all the crowds on their tour busses did. It is so easy and comfortable. Diana knew where to be and at what time to be there to have the place for ourselves before the crowds rushed in. She knows all the best photo spots and stories and we had plenty of time to take photos and enjoy the amazing scenery. There is no rush.
The tour is also perfect for people with little to no time. We took the tour on our last day. One can decide individually how long to stay in Zaans and when to take the train back to the city. You can’t do that with any other tour! Take as long or little time as you’d like. Diana will explain and show how to get back to the train and it’s the easiest thing. We had no problem! We felt in the best hands with Diana. 100000% recommendation. That is the only tour everyone should do in Amsterdam! We loved it! Thank you, Diana! We hope to see you again soon!

Diane met us with our tickets early at the main station and took us around Zaans Schan historical site. She taught us plenty of history and answered our questions very knowledgeably. Being with Diane, a registered tour guide, meant that we were able to have personal demonstrations of cheesemaking and clogmaking, thus avoiding the large groups of tourists who sporadically appeared but had to wait till we had finished! Diane also listened to what we were interested in so we also visited the pigment grinding windmills ( you have to pay separately for the windmills but they are very cheap to get in) . She was also full of many other good recommendations.
A great morning out away from Amsterdam (17 mins) and no sitting in a bus with lots of people! We really enjoyed our short visit with her. Many thanks for a lovely morning.
