Was very sad and disappointed to see so many shops disappeared from the Kyle centre, main street and side streets. Could do with a spruce up and a bit more care and attention to the street cleanliness . On the other hand the kids fun park at the sea front was well kept and good entertainment for the children. We had a very nice meal with excellent service in the Wellington Cafe and Renaldo's ice-cream next door was as good as ever.

My husband and I are visiting my home town this weekend ,which I haven't been to for over a year, and was horrified at the state of Ayr town Centre. What are South Ayrshire Council playing at the whole town is a mess.I feel sorry for people who spend money to visit Ayr for a holiday as there are no decent shops any more,it's all seems to be a range of charity shops and to let signs. We still own a lovely house in the town and have great concerns for the future of our home town.We had to move south for work not by choice ,but necessity. We were led to believe that the town was going to be regenerated. Please do something it's so sad to see this mess.

We asked Donald to provide a walking tour of Ayr for some friends (four of us in total), all being from Lancashire and all with an interest in history. The tour was fascinating and excellently delivered. Donald is highly knowledgable and very engaging. It was a pleasure to take part in this and I would highly recommend this activity - you'll come away with a great appreciation of the history of Ayr. Thank you, Donald. From Chris, Joe, Matt and Mike.

I didn't like the tired old buildings covered in dirt which needed to be pulled down and replaced. What I saw was quite depressing and I think they could do better. Why hold on to the old when it holds you back from the new? Start again Ayr. You can do much better than what you are putting up with.

Ayr is a nice town to walk about but like most town centres now it could do with some life being put back into it. A lot of empty shops but hopefully they will be taken soon

Be aware this attraction is only open on Tuesdays (Feb to Nov) Saturdays in July and August. This Kirk (Church) is well worth the visit, I was only on a day trip but the historical significance and the beauty of the building is well worth seeing. The People on duty were most welcoming and gladly showed me where Robert Burns once sat as his father was an Elder at this Church. There are 3 galleries one for each of Merchants, Sailors and Tradesmen. There is a movable Christening stand for use by left and right handed Ministers (1 of only 2 in Scotland. The Town of Ayr has many older buildings including the remains of the Citadel walls, Bruce Tower and a lovely harbour and views across the bay in South West Scotland.

We chose the walkabout auld Ayr tour as part of a year-long series of events to mark our mother's 80th birthday. She was born and brought up in a small mining village in Ayrshire and at the time Ayr was a grand and exciting metropolis to be visited on special occasions so this walking tour seemed the perfect opportunity for her to learn more about some of the lesser-known historical facts about the town she moved away from almost 60 years ago.
Donald was a superb tour guide - he took time to explain what the tour would entail, the sites we would visit and some of the interesting features we would see on the tour. He was engaging, knowledgeable and enthusiastic sharing extensive facts, myths, tall tales all interspersed with his own views and research findings. A really interesting ( added to by some colourful locals!) and informative couple of hours - highly recommend this tour.

We booked a full day private tour with Donald to combine the Robbie Burns sites with some family history locations I wanted to visit. We were not disappointed. Donald was great. He picked us up at the train station in Newton and had already checked out some of the places on our agenda.. Although it was a rainy, dreary day, he, dressed in full Robbie Burns garb, cheerfully recited, and, more importantly, interpreted Tam o Shanter while we were there at Brig o doon! How great is that? He certainly had the interest of other passers-by who wanted to get in on the great presentation. He truly is a gem and we feel so lucky to have spent the day with him. Highly recommended! Thanks Donald!

Recently met Donald (Rabbie) during the course of our Town Twinning French friend's visit.
Despite the obvious potential for the Language Barrier to raise it's ugly head, our historic walk around Ayr was thoroughly enjoyed by all concerned.
Our french friends, not surprisingly, found everything that Donald described and wonderfully brought to life to be absolutely fantastic but what was really interesting was the fact that the local people on this trip learned a whole lot more about their home town.
Donald has a rare gift of communicating hie enthusiasm and anyone going on one of his walks or tours will not be disappointed.

My husband and I chose Rab's full day tour when we visited Ayr for the weekend and spent an amazing few hours moving through many aspects of Burns history and life. He brought each areas to life and linked them up for us in a way that would not have been easy alone. And he combines a fun sense of humour with his comprehenusive knowledge as well as his own stories all of which combine into a great day. We would both recommend the tour without reservation and hope to have him run a Burns evening for us in the future. Ruth and John
