My spouse and I have taken the morning ride two times with our nieces and their partner. I was a little reluctant at first because of previous tour experiences (in the USA) that were not enjoyable. We had two trail options and picked the one with water crossings, hills and valleys. It was fun and relaxing while we toured the countryside and mountain views. Beth made sure we had a great ride (and totally safe). Afterwards, we enjoyed some of the best Mexican food I have ever eaten as we relaxed for lunch. I could eat a whole meal of their cheese quesadillas. We are planning to return in March to take the camping tour with another niece. Happy Trails!

ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE – AVOID AT ALL COSTS!
My oh my, where do I even begin? The experience I had with "Leisurely Country Horseback-riding" in San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, was an absolute disaster from start to finish. Buckle up because you won't believe the series of misadventures I encountered.
Firstly, I booked this excursion on January 5th, 2024, for a ride scheduled on the very next day (that is: today, January 6th). Considering the short notice, I tried to give the owner, Beth Kaestner, the benefit of the doubt regarding her initial rudeness. Little did I know that this was just the tip of the iceberg.
Beth promised a picturesque journey, picking me up from downtown San Miguel and transporting me to her supposed paradise of a ranch at Boca de la Cañada. On arrival, I was greeted by cowboys who, while charming, lacked English proficiency. Special shoutout to Reyes, a charismatic cowboy, but sadly, their "training" on horse riding was laughably inadequate. I found myself playing interpreter for fellow riders, aiding them with instructions that should have been provided clearly by the staff.
Post-ride, we were treated to a delectable ranch-style meal. Credit where it's due, the food was fantastic. But the real chaos began as Beth handed me her card, signaling the end—or so I thought—of my tour.
I questioned Beth about the horses' safety and proper documentation for the tour; she blatantly lied and said everything was in order. It wasn't long before our journey took an illegal turn. En route back to San Miguel de Allende, we were pulled over by police officers, revealing Beth's brazen operation without the necessary permits. She began to panic, her deceit unraveling as I found myself caught in her web of lies.
Despite my profession as a lawyer, even I wasn't prepared for the audacity with which Beth demanded I lie to the authorities. Not only that. She DEMANDED I asked the officers HOW MUCH A BRIBE WOULD BE!!??. This woman shows no respect for the country, the language nor its laws. After the police officers incredibly said no, i found out she was utterly uninsured for the trips on a high speed highway. She does not have the proper plates for her cares (which was why she was detained in the first place), but she was also operating without the required certifications. The situation escalated as Beth's unpreparedness became glaringly evident, culminating in her vehicle being impounded, leaving us stranded in the scorching heat.
Despite my fluency in both English and Spanish, I became Beth's reluctant translator, a role I never signed up for. She showed utter disregard for the local language, forcing me to bridge the communication gap during her tense standoff with the police. Her disregard for protocol, safety, and basic decency left me flabbergasted.
Beth's desperate pleas for assistance, coupled with her blatant disregard for local laws and customer safety, left a sour taste in my mouth. She failed to offer any compensation or discount for the chaos she inflicted upon me, focusing solely on her impending fine and lost vehicle. She was extremely rude, demanding help instead of asking for it. I imagine the stress of the moment caused that.
Finally, after what felt like an eternity, a taxi arrived to whisk us away. Even then, Beth's negligence continued, directing the taxi driver to a completely different destination to the one I requested to be dropped off. I guess this was because she had other clients waiting to ride on her uninsured tour.
In conclusion, "Leisurely Country Horseback-riding" and its owner, Beth Kaestner, are a disaster waiting to happen. Her reckless behavior, illegal operations, and utter lack of professionalism make this a ride you'd be wise to avoid. Save yourself the trouble and look elsewhere for a genuine, safe, and lawful experience. STAY FAR AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY AT ALL COSTS! There are far better, legal (and cheaper) options in San Miguel to do a Horseback Ride Tour just as this one.

Had a fantastic trip. Beth communicated very well and was incredibly kind and helpful. We went with a family of 6 (grandparents, mom/dad, along with 5 and 8 year old girls. We opted for an easier/gentler route and felt very secure / safe the whole way through. We then went to La Gruta for a relaxing spa day.

An amazing ride through beautiful countryside on beautifully trained, surefooted horses. Super appreciated Beth as a hostess and the cowboy's confidence and experience. This ride is perfect for any experience level!! The ride is tailored to making sure each person gets what they want out of the ride from walk to trot to canter!! As an advanced rider I have to say thanks so much to Beth and crew for a wonderful ride. And thanks to the kitchen crew for an excellent lunch to end the morning <3

Before our tour, we marketed for hats, belts, botas, and boots befitting a cowgirl! We packed our swimsuits and towels to be ready when Beth, our expert guide, picked us up for a day of the best trail riding ever!
At the ranch, Beth demonstrated her cowgirl riding skills with a quick tutorial before Reyes and Catalino
selected the perfect horse for our individual experiences. In the country all three of them made us feel comfortable and safe as we rode through varied and beautiful landscapes. The horses are tranquil and obviously very well treated - we loved every moment of our time together in the saddle!
Then we experienced the bonuses of a delicious and plentiful lunch that was freshly prepared for us before heading off to soak our bodies in the hot springs!
This is a day we’re sure to cherish and we enjoyed every moment of it!

We had a wonderful time riding in the hills outside of San Miguel de Allende. The staff were excellent from start to finish - arrived on time for pickup, took care of all needs of riders with different experience levels, answered all questions, were attentive on the trail for our safety, and prepared a delicious home-made lunch. The ride was a good 3 hours long through beautiful trails, crossing rivers, seeing views of mountains and canyons. If you like riding, outdoor adventures, and fun company, don't hesitate to book this trip. It will be one of the highlights of my time in San Miguel.

This was a great experience! Beth has great partners who assist with the sunset horseback riding trip, fixing a fabulous dinner cooked over an open fire, and all setup of tents, air mattresses, and sleeping bags. We loved the campfire after dinner and in the morning, the sunrise views were stunning. Another trail ride after breakfast, with beyond-beautiful views of the countryside! I would recommend this trip for anyone who loves camping, nature, and horseback riding.

We had a great time with Beth and the cowboys! They were very knowledgeable about the area and led us on a great trail. We can’t wait to do it again next summer!

I booked Beth because a prior review gave her ride wonderful a review and stated how safe and well organized her operation is. I found her and her team of cowboys to be wonderful guides, tremendously professional and kind hearted. We were a party of 6 beginners mostly 20 year old boys and girls and one 54 year old. Beth rides with the group and has three seasoned cowboys so 4 guides to 6 riders. Very safe ratio. The ride was a giant loop of various beautiful high desert terrain with canyon views and multiple river crossings. At the end of the ride, we had a tasty authentic locals lunch that is safe for tourists. We finished the day with a soak in the hot springs that everyone in our group agreed was a spectacular way to finish the day.

The horses were well trained. It is a long ride which we enjoyed. We did sunset tour which had beautiful views. A wonderful experience! The guides were friendly and helpful and dinner afterwards was a wonderful local treat. I highly recommend for people with some riding experience given the rugged terrain

Hi John and Nancy -
Thanks for your inquiry and contacting me. Excursion #1 is the most popular for the beginner/novice rider which is up to 2.5 hours. Most of our clients over 60 haven't ridden in years because they are on vacation looking for an activity to do. We have a variety of easy trails and very calm ranch horses to take you. We go at a leisurely and safe pace that's comfortable for you to enjoy the views of the canyon and countryside of Mexico. I ride with you as well! In addition, we offer an authentic optional ranch lunch served afterwards that's become very popular among all ages for $85 pesos each. Please let me know if you have any other questions and you will enjoy Excursion #1. Thank you, Beth Kaestner
